Water System Analyst, Bureau of Environmental Sciences and EngineeringJoin to apply for the Water System Analyst, Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering role at NYC Department of Health and Mental HygieneOverviewThe Bureau of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) has over 100 staff members focusing on identifying and minimizing environmental and engineered hazards in NYC, including water systems, radiation control, and building systems.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical expertise in water and building systems, including emerging technologies.Manage response activities during community investigations and building evaluations related to Legionnaires' disease.Coordinate rapid field responses and mobilization during Legionella outbreaks.Review scientific and policy documents to improve programs.Serve as a liaison with building owners for questions and education on water system regulation and management.Develop and deliver training and public education programs.Collaborate with internal teams to assess water management programs and ensure compliance.Identify and address public health risks promptly, in line with NYC and NYS regulations.Assist in developing RFPs and evaluate subcontractor performance.Prepare reports, including text, charts, and graphs, to depict findings and decisions.Conduct regulatory inspections of water tanks, cooling towers, and plumbing systems, including working at heights and in tight spaces.Perform water quality sampling and analysis, address complaints, and issue violations as needed.Preferred Skills and QualificationsBackground in mechanical engineering, HVAC, or plumbing.Experience in environmental enforcement and water quality assessment.Ability to wear PPE, climb ladders, and work at heights.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Benefits and Work EnvironmentLoan forgiveness prehensive health insurance, pension, and savings plans.Work-from-home options where applicable.Job security and contribution to public health.Additional InformationMinimum qualifications include experience in water quality management or related fields, with specific educational requirements. NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
