Duties & Responsibilities: Controls Engineer Summary: VIAVI innovates and markets diverse technologies that enhance the way people experience the world every day. We enable fast, high-quality communications, secure financial transactions, reliable consumer electronics, differentiated brands, and a host of other solutions. Manufacturing processes in Santa Rosa include roll-to-roll thin film coating for pigment products and rigid substrate thin film coatings to achieve specific optical properties. Wafer level packaging (WLP) processes allow use of integrated circuits within the wafers that then receive a patterned thin film coating, enhancing customer value. Other manufacturing sites supported include Beijing, China; Chandler, Arizona; Suzhou, China; and Rochester, New York. This role supports control systems for industrial equipment in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including design, development, and commissioning of control systems hardware and software. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Generate structured, well-documented, and robust PLC and HMI code meeting project objectives. Assist with equipment troubleshooting, machine upgrades, maintenance, and operations support. Lead, motivate others, and contribute to a team environment. Manage large-scale industrial automation projects. Ensure thorough understanding of electrical safety. Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Required Skills: PLC Programming (Siemens Step7/TIA Portal or Mitsubishi GX Developer and others) LabView Programming (Frameworks, QDMH, Instrument Drivers, DB interface) Motor Drives Configuration and Startup Database Design and Administration (SQL) Source code Management (SVN, Bitbucket, etc.) Industrial Networking (Profibus, Ethernet, OPC, serial, GPIB, etc.) Read and understand electrical schematics and P&IDs Closed Loop System design and tuning Ability to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, and Contractors Problem-solving skills for complex issues Strong time management Quick learner and committed to self-improvement Promote a collaborative work environment Meet ITAR regulations (US Citizen, Permanent Resident/Green Card, or Approved Political Asylee status) Desired Skills: Potential to manage the automation engineering group in the future Experience with Allen-Bradley and Honeywell PLCs Oracle Database knowledge Programming and Web Development (HTML, ActiveX, Visual Studio, C, VB, , FPGA) Vision Inspection Systems Data File Formats (JSON, XML) HMI Development (Wonderware or equivalent) Wonderware System Platform Administration Windows PC and Linux Administration Optics Knowledge and Vacuum Coating systems Interest in future leadership roles Education, Experience, and Other Requirements: BS in Engineering or equivalent Minimum five years in a similar role Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Occasional international travel If you have what it takes to push boundaries and seize opportunities, apply to join our team today.
