Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.Base pay range$151,400.00/yr - $200,000.00/yrJacobs is expanding its Transmission & Distribution (T&D) operations in North America to tackle decarbonization and utility modernization. The successful candidate will work with our regional and global T&D delivery teams to support utility/developer clients and operations teams as we expand our energy transition portfolio.What you will doAs a Principal Substation Engineer, you will:Interface with utility/developer clients on development of Substation design deliverables for utility upgrades including greenfield/brownfield & AIS/GIS substations, offshore wind facilities, and developer interconnection facilities.Provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction as an independent technical advisor representing owner’s interests on major programs and overhauls of T&D networks.Develop Substation design deliverables fully and independently as required for projects on-time and within budget; may act as Owner’s Consultant/Owner’s Engineer (OC/OE).Mentor team members across North America and globally with Jacobs Global Integrated Delivery (GID).Support sales and proposal preparation processes and ensure high-quality delivery of services to clients.Engage with professional societies (IEEE, PES, etc.) and participate in industry conferences and networking events to promote company services and stay current on industry innovations.What you’ll needMaster’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering disciplineLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) within United StatesMinimum 12 years of direct Substation design experience with utility or consulting organizationAdvanced knowledge of high voltage substation components (Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnect Switches, Circuit Switchers, Capacitor Banks, Station Service Transformers, Reactors, Rigid Bus, GIS, Switchgear buildings, Control house, underground cable potheads, etc.)Experience in development of substation designs from conceptual through IFC drawings (general arrangement, conduit/trench, grounding, BOM, schedules, construction details)Familiarity with grounding system design and lighting and lightning protection designs for substationsAbility to perform substation AC/DC Station Service calculations and studies, voltage drop calculationsExperience in development and review of equipment vendor specifications (control house/switchgear building, construction/commissioning specifications)Demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings, and specificationsFamiliarity with CAD platforms such as Autodesk or Bentley productsExperience as an owner’s representative is strongly preferredAbility to perform project scoping, prepare task orders, design review, and owner’s verificationsAbility to perform field visits and provide engineering support during constructionWillingness to train, mentor junior staff and develop training modules; set up processes for the groupStrong communication and technical writing skills; good interpersonal and presentation abilitiesAdditional informationThe base salary range for this position is $151,400.00 to $200,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education or training.
