OverviewHutchinson Aerospace and Industry, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of engineered solutions for the control of shock and vibration, has an exciting opportunity at our Hopkinton, MA facility.We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer who will assume a broad scope of technical and project management responsibilities, including design and analysis, program planning and management, customer communication, and ongoing product support. Use an engineering background in shock and vibration to support current business and develop additional business for Hutchinson in the assigned market segment.Ideal candidate characteristics include a proactive, high-energy approach to leading crossfunctional teams and delivering results across all project phases.ResponsibilitiesDesign and analysis of elastomer and metallic components to address customer problems related to shock, vibration, and noise using Creo (ProEngineer), internal analysis tools, and collaboration with internal FEA personnel. DFMEA experience is a plus.Program and project planning/management across multiple projects, leading crossfunctional teams through the New Product Development phase gate process: Concept Design (Phase 1), Prototyping & Qualification (Phase 2), and Production Ramp-Up/Industrialization (Phase 3).Phase 1: 3D modeling, system analysis, design reviews, and creation of project plans and schedules.Phase 2: Development of prototype parts and processes, qualification testing, formal reports with customer input, and ensuring customer deliverables are met.Phase 3: Coordination with Manufacturing Engineering to develop production processes and plans for a successful product launch; maintain project schedules and report status to Senior Management through Phase Gate reviews.Customer communication: calls, visits, conceptual design discussions with customer engineers, technical presentations, proposals, quotations, and recommendations for resolution of shock and vibration problems.Ongoing product support: collaboration with operations teams, review and disposition of non-conforming material, involvement in continual improvement efforts, and assistance with cost reduction initiatives.QualificationsBS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, with 6+ years of relevant experience.Knowledge/experience with 3D modeling (Creo) and FEA; FMEA experience is a plus.Experience/education including courses in shock and vibration.Proven organizational, communication, leadership, and influence skills.Experience designing component solutions to problems of shock, vibration and noise; experience with rubber bonded to metal products; experience working with OEM engineers in related markets and Defense/Aerospace applications.Experience in design of molded products and processes for manufacturing; experience in a start-up or fast-paced manufacturing environment is a plus.Experience with shock and vibration mitigation and/or analytical methods (e.g., MIL-STD-810, Modal Analysis).Strong project planning and project management skills; experience with problem-solving techniques (Fishbone 6M, 5-Why, 8D).Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management System considerations as they relate to Engineering & Product Development.Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; able to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.Able to write speeches and articles in prescribed style and format.US-based candidate compliant with ITAR and NOFORN requirements.Equal OpportunityHutchinson is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
