Then keep reading - you’ve come to the right place.Role DescriptionThe Mechanical Engineering team at Form is responsible for designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.We're seeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and lead design efforts for crucial parts of our iron-air battery enclosure. You'll bring components and assemblies from concept to into mass production, with a strong emphasis on structural design, optimization and manufacturability of metal enclosures. As a problem solver, you'll creatively tackle mechanical design challenges and apply your knowledge of designing sheet metal and weldments for mass production. You'll work cross-functionally with teams on requirements definition, verification plans, and failure analysis to deliver a design that meets those requirements. Troubleshooting design problems as they arise and working to implement improvements will also be a part of your responsibilities. If this sounds like the perfect opportunity for you, apply now!What You'll DoCreate white-page designs that will be the foundation of Form Energy’s Gen 2 product enclosure and module designsPerform hands-on prototyping of designs and collaborate with broader teams to build integrated prototypesWork with consulting companies, vendors, manufacturing engineers, and technical operations to transition designs from the prototype stage to high volume productionRun and analyze trials to inform specs and future design directionRelease designs consistent with company and team best practices (drawings, tolerance analysis, etc)Drive verification testing of your design workPerform failure root cause analysis on systems and assembliesTravel 1 week a month to other Form Energy offices or vendor sitesWhat You'll BringDegree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 8+ years, or Master's with 6+ industry experience in mechanical designExperience leading design work for complex mechanical systemsProficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), specifically SolidWorks modeling and draftingProficient in component design for mass manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), especially sheet metal, stampings, weldments and extruded componentsProficient with prototyping techniques and working in a machine shop environmentFamiliarity with mechanical verification testingFamiliarity with electro-mechanical systems, power electronics, or batteries is a plusHumanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy’s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
