The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB’s emerging building design practice in Washington DC and Tysons Corner VA.ResponsibilitiesDevelops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structuresSupports and mentors junior team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc. Provides technical oversight and review of structural designs.Monitors of project budgets and schedulesAssists with proposals and presentations for rail/transit pursuitsSupport building structural projects across VHB’s footprintSkills & AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineeringMust possess strong technical skills with knowledge of various building structural systems and codesExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrates excellence in verbal presentations and technical writingTeam oriented with strong capability to work independentlyRobust technical and critical thinking skillsStrong project management skillsProactive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and qualityAbility to lead and collaborate with a team of staff working remotelyEnthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibilityMotivated to mentor junior staffStrong organizational and time management skillsProficiency in the use of structural engineering and BIM software such as 3D Finite Element, RISA 3D, STAAD.pro PCA Design Software, RAM Steel, Tekla, MathCAD, Revit, AutoCAD, and MicrostationQualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineering required, master’s degree preferred (may substitute for 1 year of experience)5-8 years of structural engineering experience required.Licensed PE (Professional Engineer) or ability to obtain within 6 monthsExperience with structural building renovations and new structural building construction on shallow and deep foundationExperience working on projects owned and operated by transit agencies such as WMATA, VRE, Amtrak, and/or other rail transit adjacencies preferredDC, VA and MD station experience preferredFamiliarity with Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build project deliveryHiring Salary Range - $100,000 - $115,000.
