We build smart products that help people make better decisions when managing large groups of employees.As a survey scientist you will you will design and carry out surveys to address business questions; analyze survey and other forms of data with regression models; perform weighting and multiple imputation to reduce bias due to nonresponse. You will conduct methodological and statistical research to understand the quality of survey data. You will work with economists, engineers, and computer scientists to select samples, draft and test survey questions, calculate nonresponse adjusted weights, and estimate regression models on large scale data. You will evaluate, diagnose, understand, and surface drivers and moderators for key research streams, including (but are not limited to) attrition, engagement, productivity, inclusion, and Amazon culture.Key job responsibilitiesDesign a scalable global content development and validation strategy to drive more effective decisions and improve the employee experience across all of AmazonConduct psychometric and econometric analyses to evaluate integrity and practical application of survey questions and dataIdentify research streams to evaluate how to mitigate or remove sources of measurement errorDrive effective collaborations across multi-disciplinary research and product teamsManage full life cycle of large-scale research programs (Develop strategy, gather requirements, manage and execute)Basic Qualifications3+ years of investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products experiencePhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experienceExperience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive etc.Experience communicating qualitative research methods and findings to non-qualitative researchersPreferred QualificationsExperience converting research studies into tangible real-world changesExperience applying machine learning and predictive models to forecasting, data mining, feature selection for regression, and/or causal models5+ years of experience conducting large-scale applied research studiesExperience conducting statistical inference, hypothesis testing, and fitting ML predictive models using large administrative and survey databasesExperience developing and validating survey measures or assessmentsAdvanced Statistics (longitudinal data analysis, factor analysis, IRT, causal analysis, HLM, cluster analysis or SEM/Path Analysis)Experience leading research projects with multiple stakeholdersDomain expertise in researching work-related behaviorExperience providing thought leadership and consultationDemonstrable experience in two or more of the following areas (multiple preferred): sample design, conjoint surveys, data wrangling, nonresponse adjustment, survey weighting, causal analysis, experimental design, multiple imputationAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
