Position DetailsPosition DetailsJob TitleASST DIRPosition Number8102321Job CategoryUniversity StaffJob TypeFull-TimeFLSA StatusExemptCampusRogers Park-Lake Shore CampusDepartment NameSTUDENT ACADEMIC SERVICESLocation CodeSTUDENT TRANSITIONS & ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIPS (02043C)Is this split and/or fully grant funded?NoDuties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Associate Director for New Student Programs, the Assistant Director for First-Year Programs provides institutional leadership and support for UNIV courses, first-year student and family communications, new student orientation, new student convocation, and other programs and initiatives that support new first-year and transfer students, foster a sense of belonging, and impact student success and retention.The Assistant Director will:Manage UNIV 101, 102, and 201 course scheduling and instructor assignment process in collaboration with Student Academic Services, Registration and Records, and university partners.Support course administration, curriculum development, evaluation, and assessment for all UNIV first-year and transfer seminar courses.Collaborate with university partners to initiate, lead, and/or assist programs designed to support the onboarding, transition, and retention of first-year and transfer students.Oversee NSP student leader programming which includes the recruitment, training, and supervision of peer leaders who support UNIV courses and other first-year student engagement.Manage marketing and communications with first-year families, and coordinate evaluation and assessment effortsIn collaboration with the Student Transitions and Academic Partnerships team and Residence Life, coordinate the logistics of Living Learning Communities.Teach sections of UNIV 101, 102, 112, and 201 each semesterSupport the recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of graduate student workers to support first-year programming.Support the efforts of planning, implementing, and assessing new student orientation programs for first-year and transfer students and their families.Support NSP leader programming for new student orientation, which includes the recruitment, training, and supervision of orientation leaders.Collaborate on first-year student transition and success initiativesRepresent New Student Programs on University committees as assigned; participate on internal and University-wide working groups and committees, as needed.Serve as liaison to Scholars Programs and Career Services in the Division of Student Success.Supporting programming and initiatives that fall under Student Transitions and Academic Partnerships (Tutorpalooza, Major/Minors Fair)Contribute to a positive team dynamic among staff and student leaders; contribute to collaboration across the collaboration with the Student Transitions and Academic Partnerships team, coordinate the logistics of New Student Convocation.Participate in Student Academic Services signature programs, events, and activities, including but not limited to finals week proctoring and Undergraduate Admission open houses.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Education and/or Work ExperienceMaster's Degree in higher education or related field and knowledge of learning and tutoring theory. Three years' experience.QualificationsBachelor's degree with at least three years of related professional experience required; master's degree preferred.Experience with first-year experience programmingExperience supervising undergraduate student staffExperience with communications campaigns preferredExperience academically advising students preferredExperience teaching a first-year seminar preferredStrong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with University partnersDemonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with faculty, staff, students, and parents/familiesAbility to embrace, promote, and articulate the University's Jesuit Catholic identityCertificates/Credentials/LicensesBachelor's degree with at least three years of related professional experience required; master's degree puter SkillsProficient computer skills, including experience using student information systems, database management, and Microsoft 365 Office suite.
