OverviewLecturer Pool (Part-time) - Civil and Environmental Engineering. This pool is for temporary instructors to teach courses in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. Applications are reviewed as needs arise for Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters.Position OverviewSalary range: The current full-time salary range for this position is $75,301 - $199,722. Starting salary will be commensurate with highest degree, past college-level teaching experience, relevant industry experience and equity within the department. Percent time: 11-100%. The appointment percentage varies by contact hours and duties. Typical examples: one 3-5 unit course in summer ~11%; one course with three hours of lecture per week in a semester ~33%.Anticipated start: Spring semester (1/1/2026–5/31/2026); Fall semester (8/1/2025–12/31/2025); Academic-Year Appointments: 7/1/2025–6/30/2026. Lecturers hired for summer sessions work May–August.Review timeline: Spring reviews in October; Summer reviews in April; Fall reviews in May. Position duration: One semester or the full academic year. Applications accepted until final date, but late applications reviewed only if not yet filled.Position DescriptionThe department invites applications for a lecturer position to teach courses in areas including Energy, Civil Infrastructure and Climate; Construction Systems; Environmental Engineering; GeoSystems Engineering; Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials; Systems (Civil Systems); and Transportation Engineering. This pool is generated to accommodate upcoming course needs. We plan to hire for Spring, Summer, and Fall if needed. Applicants may be contacted; selection will hold the title of Lecturer. Hiring is contingent on department needs and the existence of positions.General Duties: In addition to classroom and laboratory teaching, duties may include managing graders/graduate student instructors, holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials, and maintaining course websites. Reapplication is required to remain in the pool beyond the final date.QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application): Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree. Additional qualifications (required at start): Advanced degree or five years of teaching and/or industry experience.
