The Parole Board conducts approximately 27,000 statewide and interstate parole hearings each year to make decisions regarding application, revocation, and rescission hearings of eligible offenders. The mission of the Parole Board is to increase public safety by evaluating an individual’s potential for successful reintegration to the community through the use of innovative evidence-informed practices and to fulfill the requirements of Colorado Revised Statute 17-2-201 (State Board of Parole).The Director of the Parole Board is responsible for administrative oversight of operational aspects of the unit, reporting to the Parole Board Chair and serving as a liaison between board members and unit staff.Major ResponsibilitiesPromote and lead the administrative functions of the CDOC's Office of the Parole Board, including contracting, fiscal oversight, performance management, personnel matters, policy implementation and process improvement.Assist the Chair in planning, directing and the operations of the Colorado Parole Board.Prepare briefings and advise the Chair and the board on policy issues and new or updated legislation.Prepare operational plans and manage communications.Provide leadership and direction to administrative staff, including oversight of Performance Management Program (PMP), disciplinary actions, staffing, and leave; coach and mentor staff; foster a culture of integrity and teamwork.Implement uniform case filing and processing systems.Draft, implement and evaluate board policies, goals and objectives.Update and enhance the Board's website.Represent the department in a positive and informative manner and oversee the public perception of the CDOC.Ensure responsive, efficient, and effective customer service to stakeholders to support public safety and reduce recidivism.Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal RightsEDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Management, Business, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field. (Unofficial transcripts must be uploaded with the application; transcripts must include your name, college name, degree and date conferred to receive credit.)EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional executive leadership or high-level administrative management work experience in a large corrections, criminal justice or law enforcement organization. This experience must include:Managing through subordinate supervisorsDeveloping strategic work plansSetting goals and objectives to achieve program resultsResumes will not be accepted in lieu of detailed work experience. Substitution for Education: experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis; a master’s or doctorate may substitute for the degree and experience on a year-for-year basis. Professional work experience is defined as work engaging discretion, analytical skill, judgment and accountability, and is generally obtained through study and practice in a related field.Required Competencies include self-control in stressful situations, emotional stability, high‑stakes interpersonal interaction, exemplary responsiveness, policy analysis and implementation, leadership, communication, and ability to work in a complex political environment.
