Overview Human Resources Director at Crucial Hire. Based in Chicago, IL – On-Site near Union Station. This role is the first Director of HR; you’ll design and scale the HR function from the ground up, while partnering with executives to shape a culture of innovation, accountability, and growth. Base pay range $140,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr This range is provided by Crucial Hire. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more. Location: Chicago, IL – Near Union Station | On-Site Compensation: $140K – $170K | Full-Time with Benefits What You’ll Do Lead HR Strategy – Develop and implement people strategies aligned with business growth and culture goals. Shape Talent Acquisition – Build pipelines of skilled construction professionals and leadership talent across the U.S. Drive Engagement – Launch initiatives that boost retention, DEI, and employee experience. Modernize HR Systems – Implement and optimize HRIS, ATS, and workforce analytics tools. Partner with Executives – Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, COO, and project leadership teams. Develop Leaders – Build training, career pathing, and mentoring programs for future talent. Oversee Total Rewards – Manage compensation, payroll alignment, and benefits strategy. What You Bring 10+ years of HR experience, with 5+ in a leadership role. Background in construction, engineering, or federal contracting industries. Proven success leading recruiting, compliance, employee relations, and benefits. Strong communication and leadership skills with a “builder’s mindset.” Preferred: SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or advanced degree; experience with M&A or union/non-union environments.
