This is a necessity if we ever want to develop the solar system, and become a Kardashev Type II (K2) civilization.If you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and you're excited about contributing to the success of a groundbreaking Series B space startup, we’d love for you to apply.The RoleYou will be responsible for building and supporting the Legal function as we launch into the next phase of our hyper-growth. This role will partner directly with the co-founders and leadership team to support company growth and ensure K2 Space provides the best employee experience for our stellar team.As Assistant General Counsel, you will be the primary point of contact for both commercial contracting and USG contracting matters, will oversee our NDA process, and will assist with a variety of other general corporate governance matters, helping to scale the legal function for a rapidly growing startup. This will be the second hire on the K2 Space legal team and has significant growth potential.Note that this job requires in-person presence in our Torrance, CA headquarters.ResponsibilitiesReview, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts, including procurement/supply chain agreements, subcontracts, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, and purchase ordersWork hand-in-hand with K2 Space’s Supply Chain team to refresh template documents, navigate supplier negotiations, and manage procurement/supply chain issues arising out of IP disputes, late delivery, failure to meet contractual specifications, and similar contentious mattersOwn USG contracting compliance, including assisting in the preparation of USG proposals and the administration of USG contracts, managing K2 Space’s SAM registration and similar USG contracting compliance obligations, and rolling out required policies and proceduresStreamline the NDA process, including refreshing templates, establishing escalation points, centralizing NDAs, and creating processes to speed up the NDA lifecycleCreate document storage protocols and single sources of truth for contract documentation, NDAs, and other key documentsQualificationsJ.D. degree from an ABA accredited law schoolMember of the California State Bar7+ years of relevant experience at a corporate law firm and/or in-house legal teamDirect experience drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, including some combination of procurement/supply chain agreements, subcontracts, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, and purchase ordersFamiliarity with INCO terms, customs issues, import regulations, and other regulatory matters impacting procurement/supply chainDirect experience administering USG contractsDirect experience drafting and negotiating NDAs — bonus if it’s been in the aerospace, engineering, or technology industriesStrong organizational skillsNice to HaveIn-house legal experience, preferably in a fast-paced startup environmentExperience working in the USG as a USG contracts administratorExperience in the space or aerospace industriesAn active security clearanceKnowledge of ITAR and EARCompensation And BenefitsBase salary range for this role is $200,000 - $270,000 + equity in the companySalary will be based on several factors including, but not limited to: knowledge and skills, education, and experience levelComprehensive benefits package including unlimited paid time off, medical/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, paid parental leave, and many other perksIf you don’t meet 100% of the preferred skills and experience, we encourage you to still apply!
