Overview Position: Assistant General Counsel Organization: Cuyahoga Community College Department: Legal Services Location: Jerry Sue Thornton Center Reports To: President, Corporate College/Sr. Advisor Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req6404 Employment Type: Administration and Professionals Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Number of Openings: 1 Responsibilities Negotiating, drafting, reviewing, and closing commercial, procurement, and revenue transactions involving a vast array of business and legal issues Advising clients on alternatives for achieving business objectives Monitors and provides policy, procedure, and legislative update summaries for the Office of General Counsel Staff Identifies systemic concerns about college policies, procedures, and programs, and makes recommendations for review of policies or procedures to appropriate administrative offices Monitors and executes public records requests and retention policies Collaborates extensively with other in-house legal staff, clients, Office of the Ohio Attorney General and/or outside legal counsel Works on diverse projects under the direction of the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Associate General Counsel as assigned Assists the Deputy General Counsel and Associate General Counsel in litigation related matters such as discovery and litigation holds; internal investigations; and data input and management Attends meetings on behalf of and with the Deputy General Counsel and Associate General Counsel Provides compliance advice to student affairs on admissions questions Performs legal research and writing Presents to the College community on various topics related to the effective administration of College business Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with all campus constituencies and works collaboratively with other campus personnel Performs other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications Juris Doctorate Knowledge of or experience with transactional, policy, or public interest law Member of the Ohio Bar Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to negotiate and draft a variety of contracts Ability to provide proactive and practical legal support to College clients Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Excellent analytical and counseling skills, as well as sound judgment Innovative and skilled at managing multiple projects at once, working under pressure and meeting deadlines Ability to work as a member of a team, both with business clients and within a legal organization Ability to successfully interact with a client population of varying needs Skilled at leveraging technology to improve both the quality and the quantity of legal work conducted Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently Possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills with demonstrated attention to detail Ability to be creative and exercise initiative Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail Possess sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of the community Preferred Qualifications Experience with Higher Education laws, the Ohio Sunshine Laws and/or the Ohio Public Records Act Experience in a law firm, governmental, or in-house legal department Knowledge of contract authoring and management software Strong technology skills including keyboarding, word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet applications (MS Excel), MS PowerPoint, Amicus Attorney, or similar case management program Skilled presenter Essential Functions The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Salary and Notes Target Starting Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000 The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
