This role is responsible for identifying weak spots in the system, leading root cause analysis of the issues, and ensuring effective solutions are implemented that minimize risk and cost of poor quality, while maximizing customer satisfaction. The QMS Engineer works with all team members who use QMS processes to perform their duties, as well as the internal suppliers and customers of those processes. The core function of this role is to actively drive positive changes in the culture, not simply to audit and report results. Develop plans for cross-functional, systemic process audits; ensure commitment of resources, as required, from Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and other related functions. Lead individual and cross-functional, end-to-end audits of processes that make up the system. Work with customers of the processes to assess the effectiveness of the processes and identify opportunities for improvement. Investigate reports from system users related to discrepancies and ineffective processes within the system. Communicate all issues and opportunities for improvement to appropriate department leaders and other interested parties. Facilitate cross-functional meetings to conduct root cause analysis of system issues or ineffectiveness. Assist teams in developing and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions. Conduct post-correction audits of system processes to ensure the effectiveness of solutions. Participate in meetings for new or changing system processes and assist in identifying process improvements, critical-to-quality requirements, necessary process controls and validation tests. Drive cross-functional validation testing of new or changing system processes to ensure effectiveness upon implementation. Develop and manage relationships with system users, process owners, and others to ensure consistent feedback on system effectiveness, as well as to foster a culture of issue identification, communication, and problem-solving at an organizational level. Required Skills The ability to drive timely results through people is critical. Thorough understanding of one or more quality management systems (e.g. ISO9001:2015, IATF16949, AS9100). Strong ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and concisely (verbal and written) with all levels of the organization. Skills in internal auditing are crucial. Lead Auditor Certification is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of at least one commonly accepted method of Change Management (e.g. Kotter 8-Step). Strong ability to think holistically and take a systematic approach. Skills in collaboration, analysis, documentation, meeting facilitation, and time management. Excellent problem-solving skills with multiple RCA tools and demonstrated ability to lead groups to root cause. Ability to effectively educate and coach others. Advanced functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented, with a strong personal drive for success. Qualifications 5+ years of team leadership experience and/or project leadership; successful candidates will have a high-performance track record of leading teams to achieve targets. 5+ years of experience in manufacturing plants, with preference for time spent in Quality Engineer roles. Working knowledge of necessary touch points and successful interconnections between departments of a mid-size manufacturing company. Six Sigma Green Belt certification is a plus. Project management experience is a plus. Successful candidates will embrace the challenges of advancing a quality culture that is still maturing.
