We were named to the 2023 Top Workplaces list thanks to feedback from our employees.PositionThe Sr. Systems Engineer works with our Design team to develop a variety of innovative Unmanned Systems for defense and commercial applications. This position will interact with Controls Engineers to allocate requirements and develop architectures to drive simulation models. Development efforts will generally be small focused design teams, requiring engineers to use a range of skills across traditional engineering, computer science, and mathematical disciplines. The engineer will work on multiple stages of development, including requirements definition, concept design, prototyping, detailed design, validation and verification testing.Position ResponsibilitiesManage requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycleProvide weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn downAllocate requirements to subsystem & engineering coordinationEvaluate system performance thresholds and provide directionWork with Senior Staff Engineers in developing instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisitionProvide input for model development and simulation analysisReview and interpret customer specifications effectivelyIdentify, analyze and resolve system design weaknesses. Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systemsWork on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible factorsExercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining resultsDetermine methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead)Other duties as assignedBasic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)Bachelor/'s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent8+ years of experience in a systems engineering role (Aerospace systems engineering)Proficiency with C/C++ and MatlabExperience managing requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycleProvided an effective weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn downAllocated requirements to subsystem & engineering coordinationEvaluated system performance thresholds and provided directionDeveloped instrumented flight test vectors and data acquisitionProvided input for model development and simulation analysisStrong Matlab skills and proficiency with office software and computer-based productivity toolsFamiliarity with electronics and systems related to image collection and analysisDeveloped systems test plans, procedures, and reports and reviewed and interpreted specificationsWrote Systems Safety protocols and ensured personnel safety during field testingOther Qualifications & Desired CompetenciesAdvanced degree is a plusExperience taking a product from concept to production with contract manufacturers is a plusExposure to Guidance, Navigation and Control Systems, Modeling, Simulation & Control, and Model-Based Systems Engineering is helpful but not requiredKnowledge of Simulink, Ansys and SolidWorksInterest in creating Architectures using Model Based Engineering toolsAbility to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with small teamsStrong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectivesTakes ownership and responsibility for current and past workCommitted to learning from mistakes and improving performanceEffective problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal and communication skillsTeam-oriented, collaborative, and focused on collective successSalary Range: $140,000-170,000The actual salary offered depends on several factors including location, candidate qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.MANDATORY FOR ALL REMOTE/HYBRID AND/OR CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, MARYLAND, CONNECTICUT, ILLINOIS, MINNESOTA, VERMONT, MASSACHUSETTS, NEVADA, NEW YORK, RHODE ISLAND, WASHINGTON STATE & CINCINNATI, OHIO, JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, TOLEDO, OHIO BASED ROLES.Note: Due to the nature of the work, only US Persons or permanent residents may apply for this position. - OptionalALTEN Technology is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
