Principal, Data Scientist - Market Intelligence

Position SummaryThe Principal Data Scientist of Market Intelligence is a critical role to drive our organization’s understanding of competitive landscape and identify retail growth opportunities through analyzing complex datasets and developing advanced statistical models. You will have direct visibility with executive leadership team and will drive our strategic initiatives to support the rapid growth of our omni-channel businesses.What you’ll doAnalyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to measure performance against competition and inform business growth opportunitiesResearch, create and implement advanced statistical models and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on fast-moving structured and unstructured data to support decision makingHave a very strong product mindset and proactively ideate, design, improve and automate relevant data productsLead projects and take ownership of whole lifecycle of projects. Including prototype model and data process code, communicate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Engineers, Finance, Merch, Ops, Marketing, etc.) to align progress and collaborate on integrationsCommunicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through clear and concise reports, visualizations and presentations to gain alignment and drive business actionsGuide and mentor junior data scientist team members on modeling process and algorithm and foster a collaborative and innovative work environmentWhat You’ll BringMasters in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Information Technology or related analytical discipline and 4+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience or Ph.D with 2+ years of post-graduate relevant work experienceProven advanced modeling experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, driving and influencing project roadmapsExperience with at least one scripting language (Python/R)Deep expertise in writing and debugging complex SQL codeStrong written, oral communication and presentation skillsPreferred QualificationsData science, machine learning, optimization models; PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics; publications or active peer reviewer in related journals or conferencesSuccessful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or RExperience with open source frameworks (for example, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of accessibility best practices and WCAG 2.2 AA standardsPrimary Location850 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066-3031, United States of AmericaWalmart and its subsidiaries are committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace and has a no tolerance policy regarding the use of illegal drugs and alcohol on the job.
