Overview Baystate Health, a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system serving western Massachusetts. Baystate Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Director of Clinical Safety and Risk Management to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, this role plays a critical part in advancing our culture of safety, overseeing enterprise-wide risk management operations, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care, compliance, and organizational resilience. Responsibilities Lead the operations of Baystate Health’s risk management program including development of risk reporting, monitoring standards, and system-wide safety initiatives. Supervise and mentor direct report risk managers, ensuring excellence in performance, development, and engagement. Oversee investigations of potentially compensable incidents, ensure compliance with reporting requirements, and contribute to proactive risk reduction strategies. Provide expert legal and regulatory guidance to medical staff, leadership, and community physicians on medicolegal and compliance matters. Manage inquiries from state and federal investigators and law enforcement agencies, protecting the organization from undue exposure. Collaborate with internal and external counsel on corporate, regulatory, and liability issues. Serve as an expert advisor on adverse event management while recommending strategies to minimize risk. Oversee the CARe program and other benchmark initiatives to ensure accuracy and insight-driven decision-making. Qualifications Education (Required): Bachelor’s degree. Education (Preferred): Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Nursing, Social Work, Pharmacy, or Juris Doctorate. Experience (Required): Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience (Nursing, Pharmacy, or Social Services) or equivalent healthcare setting experience. Experience (Preferred): Prior healthcare risk management or professional liability experience. Certification: Admission to the Massachusetts Bar preferred.
