Position SummaryCortex Team is Walmart's core AI conversational platform, powering the vision of delivering the worlds best personal assistants to Walmart's customers, accessible via natural voice commands, text messages, rich UI interactions, and multi-modal experiences. We are building and designing the next generation of Natural Language Understanding (NLU) services that other teams can easily integrate and leverage, and build rich experiences across voice, text, and mobile interfaces. This role leads overall programs, partners with project teams and business partners, and supports problem solving efforts. You will provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members, and support their development of business and technical skills. This is a highly technical data science team focused on LLM productization; you need to be tech-savvy with professional experience in one or more data science specializations (preferably NLP). You will collaborate with other Data Science Managers to align strategies and manage talent while communicating effectively with stakeholders.What you'll doLead programs and partner with project teams and business partners; provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching; contribute to team development of business and technical skills. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop data science solutions, and guide end-to-end product lifecycles from data gathering to deployment. Support problem solving and drive alignment across the organization for data science initiatives in NLP and related areas. This is a technical role on a data science team at the forefront of LLM productization.Minimum QualificationsMasters degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or related technical discipline3+ years with an engineering or data-science individual contributor role2+ years of hands-on management experience2+ years experience collaborating directly with cross-functional teams such as product and business stakeholders on clarifying business requirements and presenting machine learning solutionsAbility to manage innovative technology projectsAbility to manage multiple business stakeholders and technology leaders simultaneouslyStrong risk management: identify potential risks, escalate as needed, identify critical path activities, and remove roadblocks to ensure progressStrong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate at all levels, influence, challenge, and negotiate with minimal supervisionStrong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audiencesDemonstrated ability to make decisions and adapt to changeStrong track record of identifying, hiring, nurturing and mentoring top talentHands-on in all aspects of the project lifecycle from requirements gathering, data acquisition and preparation, hypothesis generation, coding, testing, and deployment of data science productsPreferred QualificationsKnowledge and strong interest in AI innovation trendsStrong expertise in deep learning, NLP, ML-ops, and distributed systemsAbout Walmart Global TechImagine working in an environment where one line of code can make life easier for hundreds of millions of people.
