OverviewAssociate Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation — UC San Diego, La Jolla, San Diego Metropolitan area. UC San Diego Athletics sponsors 23 varsity sports and competes in NCAA Division I within the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics is highly regarded nationally in scholarly and athletic achievement.As an integral member of the Sports Medicine team and Athletic Performance Unit, this role provides leadership in the holistic, year-round care of scholar-athletes. The incumbent will demonstrate professional maturity, leadership, and a growth mindset, with strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills and a systematic, performance-focused approach to rehabilitation and reconditioning. A background in elite, interdisciplinary environments (high-performance preferred) is expected.ResponsibilitiesUtilize advanced concepts and campus objectives to deliver athletic training services. Assume administrative leadership of related sports medicine programs, applying evidence-based practices for clinical and professional problem solving. Address highly complex issues requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors. Ensure prevention, management, evaluation, treatment, and care of injuries with significant time loss from training and competition. Report to the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and lead the sports medicine and athletic performance staff to uphold best practices in return-to-sport programs customized to scholar-athlete needs. When necessary, refer injuries to appropriate medical personnel and manage follow-up care. Oversee rehabilitation of scholar-athletes on physician referrals using appropriate physical agents and therapeutic devices. Collaborate with the performance coordinator to implement baseline measurements for injury prevention and return-to-sport assessments. Lead initial case management meetings with head coaches and program support staff on return-to-sport plans. Create and implement policies and protocols for equipment use, injury prevention, treatments, screenings, and assessments. Be an approved Preceptor for athletic training students from various Athletic Training Education mit to a competitive NCAA Division I program emphasizing integrity and the educational welfare of scholar-athletes, and align with UCSD Athletic Department philosophy. Foster diversity and excellence, ethical conduct, teamwork, and the educational mission of the University.A cover letter and resume are required for a complete application.QualificationsMust have a minimum of seven years of experience in athletic training working under direct supervision of an NATABOC-certified Athletic Trainer.Maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, NCAA/NAIA, and related associations; avoid violations at all times.Advanced manual therapy skills in orthopedics and sports medicine; proficiency with athletic training aids and emergency procedures including CPR.Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED (or equivalent); NATABOC certification in good standing; First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification is highly preferred.Demonstrated supervisory skills to lead, motivate, delegate, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and student employees.Advanced knowledge of athletic injury prevention and administration of therapeutic modalities, first aid, equipment, and injury assessment.Experience with physical agents and modalities for athletic injuries and extensive rehab methods.Experience developing mental health screenings and emergency plans; work with students of concern.Strong knowledge of teaching techniques for student interns and coaching principles for injury prevention; familiarity with local, regional, and national athletic training puter skills relevant to the role; experience with systems such as Smartabase and Catapult.Ability to maintain confidentiality; casework management experience with similar volume of sports.Ability to work collaboratively, organize and prioritize work, analyze programs and procedures, and translate findings into recommendations.Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with diverse groups.Procurement knowledge and campus budget understanding related to athletic equipment and supplies.Ability to multi-task, exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and meet deadlines; adaptability and discretion in dealing with diverse populations.Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to work with athletes, physicians, faculty, staff, and others in the athletic department; professionalism in attire and conduct.Knowledge of electronic medical records systems and local medical facilities for emergencies and referrals.Special ConditionsJob offer contingent upon satisfactory background check clearance.Mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect per CANRA.Campus security authority for the Jeanne Clery Act; information disclosure obligations apply.Pay Transparency ActAnnual Full Pay Range: $79,200 - $143,400 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $37.93 - $68.68.Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs.
