Job Description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a dedicated individual to join our team as an Application Engineer for our Irvine, CA, San Ramon, CA or Phoenix, AZ office. As an SEL Application Engineer, you will be a product expert, supporting the product as well as providing tools and resources for training and teaching others how our products best serve the industry. This position ranges from customer service, assisting in product application, troubleshooting, and finding creative solutions. Experience with the RTAC, network switches and cybersecurity is definitely a bonus!If you know you are a leader and can mentor others with your expertise, please don't hesitate to apply!Automation = software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practicesEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership and mentoring for Application Engineers in automation.Assist Team Leader and Regional Technical Manager in leading technical support activities of the region, including directing regional conferences and seminars, implementing new processes, and owning key customer support issues.Contribute to product specifications, application guides, technical papers, testing, software, and literature.Contribute to new product development and enhancements to products.Participate in SEL marketing and sales activities, industry technical meetings, and conferences.Help customers apply SEL products through visits, demonstrations, training courses, and telephone contact.Teach and lead in training schools for customers and SEL personnel.Develop expertise in automation or protection, while maintaining and improving general knowledge of all SEL products.Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve sales, marketing, and engineering quality procedures.Other duties as assigned.Additionally, if a Team Lead, support the Regional Technical Manager, and supervise, lead, and develop technical support staff, and serve as the point of contact and decision-maker for your team on technical customer service and support issues.Additionally, if a Team Lead, manage team schedules, performance reviews, expenses, phone duty, and primary customer responsibilities.Additionally, if a Team Lead, plan, promote, and organize all territory technical customer visits, SEL University courses, conferences, seminars, customer technical service, and other marketing and sales activities.Required QualificationsB.S. in Electrical EngineeringRegistered Professional Engineer and/or IEEE Senior Member8+ years experience in power systems, industry practices, and automation.Excellent knowledge of automation and industry practicesWorking knowledge of products and applications in other focus areasExcellent technical training, speaking, writing, and customer service skillsWillingness to travelBackground check results satisfactory to SELNegative drug test result(s)Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skillsAbility to learn new skills and assume new responsibilitiesAbility to work cooperatively in a team environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience leading project teams or supervising engineersM.S. in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in automationProven expertise in a specific application or disciplinePublished application guides and technical papers at industry conference or in journalsDetailed understanding of SEL products and their applicationsLocation InformationPhoenix, AZ, Irvine or San Ramon, CACompetitive pay. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location.
