Overview The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston Federal Reserve Financial Services (FRFS) delivers a suite of payments services to financial institutions via FedLine Solutions, FedNow, Fedwire, National Settlement Service (NSS), FedCash, FedACH, and Check Services. FRFS is transforming toward a national, enterprise-focused organization to meet marketplace needs more quickly, provide a robust and unified customer experience, and create new career growth opportunities for FRFS staff. The Federal Reserve has developed a new interbank 24x7x365 real-time gross settlement (RTGS) service with integrated clearing functionality, called the FedNow Service. This service enables financial institutions to provide their customers with the ability to send and receive payments any time and have access to those funds within seconds. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of this mission-critical Federal Reserve initiative that is transforming the payments landscape in the United States. The position will be primarily on-site with residency commutable to one of our offices required. Key Responsibilities Help ensure the security and integrity of the FedNow organization across people, operations, and technology. Directly support security engineering and operations. Provide cybersecurity expertise through consultation and hands-on technical activities. Report to the Security Operations Manager as part of the security team. Develop code to automate security configuration management. Build, test, and deploy cybersecurity-related technical solutions. Lead security investigations through data analysis, tooling, and information gathering. Build tooling to conduct proactive hunting for malicious activity impacting FedNow holistically. Represent a technologist’s point of view in selecting tooling and solutions. Participate in agile activities with geographically dispersed delivery teams. Collaborate effectively within a matrix-management environment and influence team members. Provide informal guidance and oversight to less experienced colleagues. Remove barriers and improve security across the program. Document technical solutions and supporting processes. Maintain a strong interest in current security threats and the information security landscape. Identify and address root causes of issues, focusing on solving problem categories and engaging early. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required Ability to program or script in Bash, Python, Java, or Go. Ability to utilize CI/CD automation tools (e.g., TravisCI, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, GitLab Pipelines, AWS CodeDeploy). Expertise in incident response including network security, vulnerability assessment, SIEM tooling, and adaptability. Expertise with Cloud IAM configuration, container orchestration, and log management tooling. Ability to rapidly produce proof-of-concept code to demonstrate potential solutions. Knowledge of cloud computing technology and IT infrastructure designs, including networking protocols, operating systems, and databases. Typically 5-8 years of relevant experience, normally acquired through a Computer Science or Computer Engineering bachelor’s degree. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels and simplify complex security topics for decision making. Supervision This position will not directly supervise employees. Other Considerations Periodic travel within the U.S. may be required (10-15% of time). This role requires being on-call on a rotational basis to address urgent issues outside of regular business hours.
