OverviewTrinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks an Archivist. As the oldest Catholic women’s college in America, Trinity is transforming into a university serving a large majority of Black and Latina students from the Washington region. Trinity’s archives house essential documents and perspectives on women’s education and leadership, Catholic higher education and religious congregations, institutional change, curricular reform and inclusive excellence pedagogy to reflect the growth of new populations of college students.The Archivist plays a pivotal role in preserving and making accessible the historical memory of Trinity. This position reports to and works closely with the University Librarian to ensure the comprehensive management of the university’s archival collections in all formats. The Archivist is responsible for long-term preservation, discoverability, and use by the university community and external researchers, while providing leadership in developing archival policies, procedures, and services that align with best practices and the institution’s mission. Responsibilities Manage archival collections in all formats in alignment with national and international standards for records management and document preservation. Develop and oversee a digital archives system. Provide access and reference services; engage in outreach on campus and with networks of alumnae and friends to secure ongoing acquisition and appropriate use of materials. Develop policies and procedures for archives management; supervise library staff interfacing with the collection; supervise student workers; provide classes on archives usage for student researchers. Qualifications Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program with specialization in archives, or master’s degree in History, Information Science, Museum Studies with significant archival coursework/experience. At least 2 years of professional experience in an archival repository, preferably in an academic setting. Knowledge of archival theory and best practices; experience with collection management software; understanding of digital preservation principles and practices. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
