Cybersecurity Specialist Overview Position: Cybersecurity Specialist. Support NAVWAR's PMW 160 (tactical networks) in San Diego, CA. This is for future work to be awarded in 2026. Clearance required: US citizen with a DoD Top Secret security clearance. Responsibilities Support initial installation and subsequent periodic cybersecurity assessments to evaluate Navy lab and platform network systems against applicable cybersecurity requirements, including NIST 800-53 Security Controls, STIGs, SCAP, and ensuring patching is up to date. Provide security assessments in support of Assessment and Authorization (A&A) events. Perform validation testing of systems to ensure security features are functioning properly. Create cybersecurity authorization packages using ONI and Navy NAO tools (e.g., XACTA and eMASS) and prepare artifacts for system cybersecurity authorizations at all classification levels. Assist in monitoring cybersecurity product integration efforts through Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) efforts. Provide support for Cross Domain Solution (CDS) certifications, including preparation of materials necessary to accredit and authorize installations. Provide subject matter expertise in CDS security and Trusted Thin Clients (TTC). Provide input for cybersecurity engineering solutions by comparing state-of-the-art security capabilities to approved acquisition documents and provide an Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) to support hardware and software Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs). Monitor the results of external cybersecurity development efforts to support integration into PMW 160 systems. Recommend corrective action or provide technical options when planned cybersecurity accomplishments, such as STIG compliance, are not achieved. Provide technical feedback during program reviews, briefings, working groups, acceptance tests, and other meetings to translate joint service security requirements into PMW 160 design requirements. Perform security analysis and maintenance of engineering changes to identify vulnerabilities, end-of-life and end-of-service components, and impacts to the authorized baseline (may include Nessus, ACAS and SCAP). Support and analyze new system design concepts and identify new operational, system security, and functional requirements. Define security environments, potential threats, vulnerabilities, safeguards, security performance indicators, and risk factors. Perform threat and vulnerability risk analyses of PMW 160 network systems, documenting results and recommended corrective actions, contingencies, and other threat and vulnerability recommendations. Required Education, Skills, and Experience Bachelor's Degree in a technical or managerial field IAT Level II certification (Security+ or equivalent) At least years' experience in cybersecurity Experience with IA vulnerability testing and related system test tools (e.g., Nmap, ACAS/Nessus, SCAP) Experience with Navy afloat networks and systems such as ISNS, ADNS, CANES, CENTRIX-M, etc. Physical Demands and Expectations Some travel may be required Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing; occasional prolonged sitting Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment This position description presents a summary of the major components and requirements of the outlined job.
