Saronic Technologies is a leader in revolutionizing defense autonomy at sea, dedicated to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance maritime operations for the Department of Defense (DoD) through autonomous and intelligent platforms.We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Naval Architect based in Arlington, VA to support the design, analysis, and development of autonomous surface vessels. This role will provide hands-on experience in traditional naval architecture and advanced autonomous technologies; driving impact in defense innovation. Additionally, this role will support Saronic’s growth team as a technical expert.ResponsibilitiesAssist in the design, development, and analysis of vessel hull forms, arrangements, structures, and mechanical systems for ASVsConduct hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, seakeeping, and maneuvering simulationsCollaborate with other engineers to perform CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management for vessel optimizationSupport the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designsParticipate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel conceptsResearch and stay updated on new developments in naval architecture, autonomous technology, and defense requirementsSupport documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use and client presentationsInterface with contracts and proposal teams as technical subject matter expertRepresent the technical team at customer meetings and trade showsQualificationsBachelors or Masters degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related fieldStrong fundamentals in core naval architecture principles, including ship design, stability, structures, propulsion, and hydrodynamicsProficiency with CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, Nx) and simulation tools (e.g., Orca3D, Star CCM+, GHS, equivalent)Strong written and verbal communication skillsExperience in client facing rolesExperience supporting and leading proposal efforts on SOW development and technical feasibilityExperience in technical leadership roles such as ship design managerPhysical RequirementsAbility to walk, climb, or stand for extended periods during shipyard or onboard inspections.Capable of climbing ladders or stairs and accessing confined or elevated spaces (e.g., tanks, engine rooms).Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25–30 lbs (e.g., plans, laptops, small equipment).Good visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected) to inspect structural elements, read blueprints, or use CAD software.Capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection, when fortable working in varied environments, including onboard vessels, dry docks, or outdoor marine settings, potentially in varying weather conditions.May require occasional domestic or international travel, which may include shipboard or industrial environments.BenefitsMedical Insurance: Comprehensive health insurance plans covering a range of servicesSaronic pays 100% of the premium for employees and 80% for dependentsDental and Vision Insurance: Coverage for routine dental check-ups, orthodontics, and vision careSaronic pays 99% of the premium for employees and 80% for dependentsTime Off: Generous PTO and HolidaysParental Leave: Paid maternity and paternity leave to support new parentsCompetitive Salary: Industry-standard salaries with opportunities for performance-based bonusesRetirement Plan: 401(k) planStock Options: Equity options to give employees a stake in the company’s successLife and Disability Insurance: Basic life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverageAdditional Perks: Free lunch benefit and unlimited free drinks and snacks in the officeThis role requires access to export-controlled information or items that require “U.S. Person” status.
