OverviewSenior Portfolio Manager - Wholesale Credit Delivery - Middle Market segment at Truist. The position underwrites credit exposure for Wholesale Banking clients and actively manages a Middle Market or CML portfolio. Includes day-to-day client interaction, managing portfolio risk, and adherence to regulatory and compliance guidelines. A critical component of this role is early identification of emerging credit problems and industry trends.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesUnderwriting: Leads the entire commercial underwriting process with prospects and clients. Underwrites and documents all prospect and client transactions. Analyzes individual company performance, orders real estate valuations, environmental assessments and UCC searches. Acts as liaison with Commercial Fulfillment and Commercial Sales Assistant (CSA). Provides independent analysis of financial statements and business plans; identifies and mitigates key risks. Recommends and models appropriate loan structures while maintaining expertise around the bank’s ancillary products. Accountable for risk evaluation and regulatory compliance requirements. May require specialized underwriting skills for Commercial and Industrial, Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Banking, Working Capital and other Truist offerings.Portfolio Management: Manages assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, identifying issues, and following through for remediation. Maintains risk rating integrity, conducts annual reviews, financial statement spreading, and regulatory compliance reviews. Manages amendments and waivers in the portfolio. Maintains a proactive, transparent, collaborative approach to risk management.Client Engagement: Applies knowledge of credit policy, pricing, and structure to develop solutions that meet client needs and the bank’s risk criteria. Ensures data integrity of inputs/outputs and keeps loan systems information up to date.Span of Control: No direct reports; regular interaction with Clients and Prospects, Portfolio Management teams, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Credit Review, Technology, and internal/external auditors and examiners.Decision-Making and Autonomy: Provides independent current and forward-looking risk assessments, including risk ratings and underwriting recommendations. Final approval rests with the ultimate risk approval officer.Problem Complexity: Complex; responsible for underwriting and management of significant client exposure.Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading: Develops independent viewpoints and provides recommendations to decision makers. Mentors junior talent and partners as appropriate. May lead projects or programs that benefit the PM platform.Impact and Risk: Delivers solid credit and underwriting analyses and risk rating recommendations. Key risk drivers include credit and operational risk.QualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field and at least 5+ years of related experience in commercial credit analysis.Mastery of MS Office desktop applications.Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.Sound credit skills and strong attention to detail.Ability to prioritize workflow and multitask in a fast-paced environment.Preferred QualificationsExperience in a similar role at a commercial financial institution or dustry or sub-sector expertise.Mastery of Truist operating systems (e.g., COMPASS) and other commercial applications (e.g., Salesforce, nCino).General benefits: Truist offers benefits to regular teammates working 20 hours or more per week, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement savings plans, plus paid time off and holidays.
