OverviewSoftware Engineering Manager – NASA Orion Spacecraft and Lunar Wireless Camera Software. CACI is looking for an experienced human spaceflight Software Engineering Manager to provide NASA Johnson Space Center with project leadership and technical expertise in embedded and flight software systems to support the development, testing, verification and validation (V&V), and flight certification of digital wireless cameras to be used onboard the Orion spacecraft and on the lunar surface. This work includes prototyping, requirements definition, design, development, test and verification, integration, and certification of spacecraft software.This position requires a self-motivated, capable software engineering manager with strong verbal and written communication skills. The individual must be a strong leader, able to manage customer relationships, be a positive team player, flexible, and willing to take on new assignments. The person should be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas effectively and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.ResponsibilitiesLead a 5+ member spacecraft software development team, developing and prioritizing features based on customer needs, planning verification, interacting with and providing support to users, managing project schedule, and delivering product demonstrations of capabilities.Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support team development and training.Be responsible for all team administrative duties, e.g., team member assignments, timesheet approval, performance feedback, recruiting activities, etc.Develop and maintain the Orion Wireless Camera (OWC) flight software.Develop and maintain the Lunar Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Observation Camera (LEOC) flight software with primary focus on command and data handling and file handling.Design, develop, and maintain the OWC and LEOC Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for commands and telemetry.Design, develop, and maintain the OWC and LEOC Command and Data Dictionaries (CDDs).Develop automated test scripts in support of unit, integration, and verification testing.Perform systems engineering as needed in support of software requirements and interface definitions, design, integration, testing, flight certification, and user guides.Perform software integration, test, and tegrate and test software/hardware in avionics test bed and flight certification environments.Collaborate with engineering teams and contractors across multiple NASA programs and projects.Ensure adherence to JSC standard software process practices.Support customer status reporting.Support recruiting and team member development initiatives.QualificationsRequired:Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines.A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in technical leadership of software development teams. Greater experience is highly valued.Must embrace a servant leadership model in leading the project and serving the customer and team members.Experience in recruiting, personnel project assignments, team member development, and performance feedback.At least 5 years of experience in software development for safety-critical software.Experience can be for aerospace vehicles or in other industries, e.g., oil and gas. More experience is highly valued.Strong C programming skills and experience with Linux.Strong Python programming skills.Must have experience in the entire software life cycle.Experience with automated software testing such as unit, integration, and verification tests.Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic. Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.Desired:M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines.Experience in human-rated space vehicle software, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Orion, Commercial Crew in a range of systems (e.g., C&T, C&DH, GN&C).Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.Experience defining software test cases.Experience evaluating software requirements from a verification perspective. Experience developing and maintaining software documentation including (but not limited to) CDDs, Software Requirements Specifications (SRSs), user’s guides, and test procedures and plans.GTK programming skills.Experience developing software using various bus communication protocols (e.g., 1553, RS-422, RS-232, USB, Ethernet).Experience in NASA Core Flight Software (CFS).Experience with Orion Flight Software Data Exchange Message (DEM) packets. Experience developing GitLab CI/CD pipelines.Experience with Docker, Makefiles, and CMake.Experience using GitLab and Git version control system.Experience using Jira.Familiarity with CMMI Level 3 (or above) process areas.This position is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately.
