OverviewJoin to apply for the Structural Engineer (Bridge Focus) – Senior Level role at Moffatt & Nichol.Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a Structural Engineer with 10 to 15+ years of experience in bridge, transportation, and/or rail structure projects. The successful candidate will have strong design and communication skills and be able to lead tasks and interact with clients. Location options include Costa Mesa (preferred), Long Beach, or Ontario, California. The SoCal bridge team provides a wide variety of structural transportation services, including concrete and steel bridge design, bridge widening and replacement, grade separations, structural assessment and rehabilitation, seismic retrofit, pump stations, underground structures, and retaining walls. The firm’s bridge practice also provides design and inspection services domestically and internationally.The firm’s EEO and employment policies apply to this role in accordance with applicable laws. Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead project conceptualization, bridge design (preliminary and final), plan development, project implementation, and project controlsMaintain proficiency with Caltrans and local agency design standards, criteria, practices, and policiesKnowledge of rail bridge design based on AREMA manuals and UPRR/BNSF guidelinesMentor and review engineers’ design workWrite and coordinate bridge and rail-related technical reports, plans, cost estimates, specifications, and proposalsCollaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and other disciplines within the companyAssist in construction supportPerform technical design tasks independently QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering strongly preferredProfessional Engineer registration in California or eligible to obtain within 6 months; Structural Engineer licensure a plus10 to 15+ years of experience leading design tasks, bridge structural and seismic analysis, design (new and rehabilitative), and preparation of construction drawings and contract documents for highway and/or railroad bridge projectsSteel bridge design experience is a plusBridge, rail, and site inspection experience desirableStrong knowledge of Caltrans, local municipal, and county design standards and criteriaProficiency in SAP2000, CSI Bridge, CTBridge, Xtract, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStationExperience with other states’ design guidelines and bridge load rating is desirableStrong written and verbal communication/coordination skillsPre-employment background check required; compliance with NIST 800-171Legal ability to work in the U.S. and to present documentation at hire (E-Verify) Compensation and BenefitsBase Salary Range: $112,700 to $148,800, dependent on experience, education, and qualifications. This range applies to candidates hired in California. Working ConditionsWork occurs in both office and field environments, with possible extended hours or weekend work to meet deadlines. Inclement weather may occur. Remote work may be approved for up to two days per week on a case-by-case basis. Physical RequirementsAbility to navigate field sites to inspect bridges and rail structures; site visits may involve unpaved or natural terrain. Office work and meetings are also required. Light local travel as necessary.
