OverviewEnviroVoters and EnviroVoters Education Fund seek a hands-on and detail-oriented Finance Director to lead and strengthen our financial operations across our 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC entities. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing an outsourced accounting team, ensuring accurate financial data, overseeing daily accounting operations, and helping build a sustainable internal finance infrastructure over time. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with senior leadership, program staff, and external partners.Location: Oakland, Fresno, Sacramento, Los Angeles, or Riverside. Work Schedule: Four Day Work Week: Two (2) days in office, two (2) days remote. There may be circumstances where a temporary five-day work week is necessary to meet deadlines or peak business periods.ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable, reconciliations, and journal entriesOversee month-end close and financial reporting: journal entries, schedules, reconciliations, and variance analysis across 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC entitiesEnsure timely and reliable financial reporting, including cash forecasting and leadership dashboardsAnalyze organizational finances for different entities and identify financial challenges, risks, and opportunitiesManage an outsourced accounting team; hire, train, and motivate internal staff as neededLead annual budget process, mid-year forecasts, and long-term financial planningMaintain compliance with GAAP, IRS/state regulations, and internal policiesCoordinate annual audits and prepare tax filings (990s, 199s, etc.)Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policiesPartner with Development and Program teams on grant budgeting, tracking, and reportingManage payroll in partnership with HR and ensure regulatory complianceAdvise on investment strategies, risk management, and liquidityWork closely with the Executive Director and Boards on financial strategyPartner with Political Director and consultants on PAC and electoral compliancePresent financial updates to leadership, Board, and Board committeesWhat You’ll BringExceptional attention to detail and a knack for spotting and fixing data issues; willing to roll up your sleeves and dig into the details8–10 years of finance experience, including 5+ years in nonprofit finance and 3+ years managing staffBachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA preferred, MBA a plusExperience with 501(c)(3) nonprofit fund accounting required; 501(c)(4) and PAC experience is a plusKnowledge of GAAP, audits, and internal controlsExperience with restricted grants management is highly valuedCollaborative leadership style with the ability to support and empower team members and cross-functional partnersProactive problem solver who anticipates challenges and proposes thoughtful, strategic solutionsCommitment to continuous learning and openness to feedbackStrong communicator (written and verbal) with ability to build trust across teamsProficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and systems such as How To ApplyWe look forward to reviewing your resume and learning more about you.
