OverviewMedical Science Liaison, Hematology and Nephrology, Mountain West. The MSL is a field-based scientific expert that supports medical and scientific objectives across product life cycles, communicating accurate science to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) within a geographic area and managing relationships with HCPs and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). The MSL identifies collaboration opportunities with Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, and serves as a liaison internally to Medical Directors, USMA Leadership Team, and cross-functional partners. The role requires problem solving, proactive engagement, and innovation to achieve medical goals and objectives.Location: Field-based with travel within territory; home-based office. Travel expectations and specific logistics described in the Additional Role Requirements.You Will Be Responsible ForHCP relationship management: Evaluate territory to profile and identify HCPs to engage, identify centers of excellence, and develop engagement plans aligned with medical strategic goals; adjust plans based on quarterly priorities.Gains HCPs’ trust by providing and communicating relevant scientific/medical information on the company’s products and disease states; gather and disseminate HCP insights to inform medical strategy.Develops strong working relationships across external business settings.Knowledge, Skills, And ExperienceKeeps current with scientific knowledge within assigned products and therapeutic area; supports scientific exchange with external stakeholders as needed; provides relevant information to internal teams; demonstrates understanding of real-world evidence and HEOR.Research & Development: Understands clinical study design and protocols; ensures HCPs receive focused and balanced clinical and scientific information; develops expertise in applicable research outcomes for credible discussions; supports externally sponsored research and trials where appropriate.US Healthcare system knowledge: Understands current US healthcare environment and its impact on the rare disease ecosystem; basic understanding of managed markets and information flow in managed care and government organizations.You Will Need To HaveMinimum EducationMD, PharmD, or PhD in biological sciences strongly preferred; clinical experience in a relevant therapeutic area OR track record of success as an MSL.Minimum ExperienceIndustry experience preferred but not mandatory; if no industry experience, therapeutic area experience is preferred.Specific Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesExcellent communication (oral and written); strong personal initiative; ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team; strong time management; leadership potential.Additional Role RequirementsOffice is home-based. Travel within region 3-4 days per week with 1-2 office days per week; roughly 70% travel expected.Required travel to medical meetings, team meetings and other group meetings (including possible weekends).Candidate must live within the territory; work in field environment; use computer, phone, video, and electronic messaging; travel by public transport, automobile, train, or plane; adaptability to schedule changes.All activities conducted per Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease policies.
