OverviewThe Senior Protection & Control (P&C) and System Engineer works on T&D substations for AC, HVDC and FACTS projects with designers, peer engineers & leaders. They review P&C designs for compliance with project specifications and applicable standards. The Engineer mentors the secondary design team, acts as its main technical authority, and represents GE with external standards committees (e.g. IEEE). The Senior P&C Engineer is an established leader in their engineering team and drives business strategy through detailed technical and economic understanding, delivering solutions that positively impact the business. They are accountable for the proper performance of design in terms of engineering cost, time, and quality. While primarily focused on design reviews, the role may be identified as project engineering manager for small to medium projects with a strong emphasis on secondary engineering. The Senior P&C Engineer continuously updates themselves with new technology, maintains a mindset of continuous learning aligned with grid transition needs, and provides technical direction to the team. The role impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and influences quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the team. It requires moderate autonomy and strong operational judgment. Responsibilities Ensure high quality design of protection schemes for all kinds of T&D substations, data centers, industrial, BESS applications, including one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, and relay settings. Review, propose optimization and seal (P.E. stamp) protection and control designs prepared by themselves or other team members. Lead and coordinate all P&C technical aspects of AC power substation projects, ensuring safe operation of power system equipment. Review, propose optimization and seal (P.E. stamp) single line diagrams and detailed design for auxiliary systems (Diesel Generator, Low Voltage Switchgear, AC/DC distribution panels, batteries and battery chargers). Review power system load flow studies, fault studies, relay setting coordination, and transient studies performed by other agencies. Develop or review outage, cut-over, and testing procedures. Be familiar with IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture and its implementation for substations. Interface with internal and external team members and customer technical representatives. Review and analyze post-fault records to confirm correct operation of the system design. Lead or support factory acceptance testing and site testing & commissioning. Work on development of proposals including writing/reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, and technical validation. Extensive experience in technical problem solving and Lean techniques; mastery of secondary engineering discipline. Develop high-quality design templates and tools to support the secondary design engineering team and the business. Define processes, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and validate process control; support ISO 9002 quality initiatives. Demonstrate leadership behaviors with humility, transparency, and focus. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the US. Minimum 10 years of experience in system protection schemes, relay selection, primary equipment interface requirements, operational analysis, communication systems and maintenance practices for transmission, distribution, and generation protection applications at AIS and GIS substations. Minimum 10 years of experience in design reviews and technical mentoring. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, including international travel for meetings and on-site commissioning tests, in compliance with company travel and tax policies. Desired Characteristics Extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and practices; understanding of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC and FACTS systems. Member of Standards Committee such as IEEE or willingness to become one. Ownership, accountability, sound judgment, knowledge sharing, and strong communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; organized, goal-oriented, and able to work under pressure in dynamic environments. Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is 122,300.00 - 163,100.00 USD annual. The specific salary offered may be influenced by experience, education, and location. This position is eligible for a performance bonus. 122,300.00 - 163,100.00 - 203,900.00 USD annual.
