Overview Staff Research Associate 1 (9613C), Molecular and Cell Biology - 80012 at University of California, Berkeley Position Summary The SRA will act as a lab manager in the He Lab. 20% of time is dedicated to lab management; 80% to research support. Responsibilities Research Support: supervised basic research to examine the function of ncRNAs and transposon pathways in mouse development and aging, including colony management, molecular biology, mouse surgery, phenotype analyses and RNA sequencing experiments. Update and maintain animal protocols. Perform basic molecular biology, cell biology and mouse genetics experiments. Lab Organization and Lab Management: handle administrative paperwork to maintain lab operation (BUA, AUP, etc.). Supply and inventory management. Manage lab ordering system, price negotiation with vendors, and assign lab duties. Organize lab protocols, reagents, and cleanup. Assist in training junior lab members in basic techniques and other duties as assigned. Act as lab safety officer, manage lab compliance paperwork. Required Qualifications Experience with basic molecular biology, cell biology and developmental biology. Computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe Illustrator) and organization skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize work. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. At least one year of lab research experience. Strong learning capacity on bench skills. Bachelor's degree in cell biology, biochemistry, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications Experience with handling of mice, basic sterile techniques, surgical procedures. Experience with Python or R. 2+ years of research experience in an academic lab. Salary & Benefits The university offers a comprehensive benefits package. The budgeted hourly range for this position is $26.52 (Step 1) – $30.95 (Step 8).
