OverviewThe University of Texas System has announced the creation of the $2.5B University of Texas at Austin Medical Center, including an MD Anderson owned and operated cancer hospital and a UT Austin Hospital staffed by the faculty medical group of UT Austin Dell Medical School. The inaugural Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for UT Austin Medical Center will support the needs of Dell Medical School and help shape the HR function as the center evolves into a leading academic medical center. Start date: ASAP.The OrganizationThe University of Texas at Austin is a highly rated public research university and flagship institution of the UT System with more than 51,000 students. UT Health Austin, Dell Medical School’s outpatient clinical practice, currently includes approximately 330 subspecialists, with plans to recruit more specialty physicians as the hospital and ambulatory care settings expand. The faculty medical group is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.The PositionThe CHRO will be a visible, senior member of the leadership team, reporting to Dr. Claudia Lucchinetti, Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Dean, Dell Medical School. The CHRO will lead the HR function across Dell Medical School and UT Austin Medical Center, overseeing rapid transformation and workforce expansion in the next five years to support hospital operations and organizational growth. Responsibilities include building an agile HR organization, designing future HR operating models, and leveraging flexible staffing, upskilling, and cross-functional teams to support a workforce that will exceed current levels by several thousand employees prior to hospital opening. A focus on well-being, retention, resilient workflows, and technology-enabled HR will be essential as the organization scales.Supporting an existing workforce of over 1,600 employed faculty and staff, the CHRO will guide workforce expansion, develop pipeline programs, and coordinate onboarding and training to align with recruitment timelines.ResponsibilitiesBuild and lead an agile HR organization to support the Dell Medical School and UT Austin Medical Center as they evolve into a leading academic medical center.Develop and implement workforce strategies, including flexible staffing models, continuous upskilling, cross-functional teams, and scalable onboarding programs to support rapid growth.Prioritize well-being and retention through improved workflows, team-based models, restorative spaces, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology-enabled HR processes.Oversee rapid transformation and expansion of the faculty and staff workforce, with recruitment expectations running into the thousands prior to hospital opening.Develop pipeline programs and ensure effective onboarding and training to meet recruitment timelines.Qualifications15+ years of HR experience within large, multi-faceted, decentralized, and complex organizations, ideally in academic health systems.Strong domain expertise across critical HR functions and the ability to rapidly grow teams.Ability to navigate ambiguity and thrive in fast-paced environments.The City of AustinAustin, Texas, is a growing region with a vibrant culture, high quality of life, and a strong tech and creative community.
