Senior Assistant Legal Counsel – Labor & EmploymentBase pay range$148,648.00/yr - $200,675.00/yrOverviewClackamas County is seeking a Senior Assistant Legal Counsel to provide expert legal guidance on critical labor and employment matters, represent the county in complex cases, and help ensure compliance across all levels of county operations.You will play a central role in safeguarding the county’s compliance with complex labor and employment laws, provide strategic legal advice to county leadership, departments, and elected officials on issues ranging from labor negotiations to employment policies and workplace practices, and represent the county in arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and state and federal litigation. You will also advise on legislative proposals affecting county operations and serve as a subject-matter expert and mentor to attorneys and paralegals on employment-related matters.ResponsibilitiesProvide strategic legal guidance on labor and employment matters to county leadership, departments, and elected officials.Represent the county in arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and state/federal litigation.Advise on legislative proposals affecting county operations.Mentor and guide attorneys and paralegals on employment-related issues.Counsel management on employee discipline, grievances, labor negotiations, and compliance with state and federal requirements (e.g., anti-discrimination laws, FMLA/OFLA, ADA, whistleblower protections, wage and hour regulations).Apply liability and risk management principles to provide practical legal guidance aligned with the county’s goals.QualificationsExtensive experience in labor and employment law advising management on all aspects of labor and employment matters.Proven track record representing management in arbitrations and administrative proceedings, and litigating employment matters in court.Strong background in compliance with state and federal requirements and ability to advise on policy creation and implementation.Ability to act as a subject-matter expert and mentor within a collaborative public-sector legal team.Benefits and Work EnvironmentOpportunity to grow as a subject-matter expert and work on high-profile projects that shape county operations.Collaborative team focused on public service, equity, accountability, and integrity.Application DetailsThis position will remain open until filled.
