OverviewCentral West Justice Center (CWJC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid (CLA). Together, CWJC and CLA have over 180 dedicated staff working across multiple offices in Central and Western Massachusetts. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities.PositionCWJC seeks an attorney to join a vibrant, talented team that provides legal assistance in humanitarian-based immigration law matters, including but not limited to removal defense, VAWA petitions, U and T visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases. The attorney will engage in community outreach, including community consultation sessions and know-your-rights trainings, and will assist in the preparation of periodic grant reports. The position is in CWJC’s Springfield office.ResponsibilitiesProvide legal assistance in humanitarian-based immigration matters, including but not limited to removal defense, VAWA petitions, U and T visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases. Engage in community outreach, including community consultation sessions and know-your-rights trainings. Assist in the preparation of periodic grant reports.QualificationsNew law school graduates and more experienced lawyers are eligible to apply. Fluency or advanced proficiency in languages in addition to English strongly preferred, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole. Prior experience in immigration law and demonstrated experience working with diverse communities strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are pensation and BenefitsThe starting salary for this position is $73,000, which is based on a union scale and adjusted upward depending on experience.
