You will join a global team of scientists and engineers to deliver cutting-edge, well-engineered ML systems and work with product and engineering teams to integrate ML into a broad suite of learning, teaching, and integrity products. Our models support millions of students and instructors worldwide and power our AI writing detection, automated feedback, authorship investigation, and other core processes. Responsibilities Research and develop production-grade Machine Learning models; optimize models for scaled production usage. Collaborate with the AI team, other engineering teams, product management, marketing, sales, and customer support to identify product issues and opportunities and propose ML/AI-based solutions. Contribute to ad-hoc tasks as a team player within the AI group. Curate and generate high-quality datasets with responsible data collection and model maintenance practices. Access SQL, NoSQL, and web data; build efficient parallel data pipelines; design datasets for data quality. Investigate production weaknesses and develop pragmatic solutions. Utilize and fine-tune off-the-shelf models, including LLMs via API (prompt engineering and agents) and locally hosting foundation models. Stay current in the field by reading research papers, testing new architectures and LLMs, and sharing findings. Write clean, modular code with automated tests and documentation. Make informed technology choices and explain them to the organization; productionize work with downstream teams for product releases. Communicate insights, model behavior, and limitations to peers, subject matter experts, and product owners. Present and publish work as appropriate. Qualifications Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI, Machine Learning, applied math, or related field, or outstanding achievements in Deep ML, CS, and Software Engineering. At least 5 years of industry experience in Machine/Deep Learning, CS, and software engineering (Python ecosystem). Strong understanding of the math and theory behind machine learning and deep learning. Academic publications in peer-reviewed venues related to ML (preferred A/A+ rated venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, KDD, CVPR, etc.). Understanding of Language Models, training/fine-tuning, and familiarity with industry-standard LM families. Excellent communication and teamwork skills; fluent written and spoken English. Preferred Qualifications Software development proficiency; experience with text data for DL/ML models; experience with vision or speech modalities is a plus. Computer Science educational background preferred over statistics or pure math. Experience with prompting/agentic systems and fine-tuning/training LLMs on accepted platforms. Showcase previous work (website, presentation, open source code). Experience coding for at-scale production, including backend API services or standalone libraries. Compensation and Benefits The expected annual base salary range is $111,000/year to $185,000/year. This position is bonus eligible/commission-based. As a Remote-First company, compensation is provided in writing at the time of offer and depends on location and factors such as experience, skills, degrees, and certifications.
