We seek highly motivated engineers who build high-throughput, high-availability systems that can scale with a high-growth business. You will collaborate with partner teams across the US and Europe to support feature development and improve key metrics to ensure Affirm users can pay in the way they want while protecting their financial health. What You’ll Do Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and support delivery. Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics in ideation; articulate technical constraints and trade-offs to stakeholders. Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues; advocate for and lead their resolution. Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics; participate in on-call efforts as needed. Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and sharing them beyond the team via writing and talks. Develop talent on the team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example. What We Look For 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin. Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features or system components with elegant, simple, extensible design; write high-quality, understandable code. Proven ability to make meaningful changes in a large codebase and develop tools/practices to enable safe changes. Demonstrated ownership of personal growth; proactively seeks feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team. Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Compensation and Benefits Pay Grade: N Equity Grade: 8 Base pay ranges (USA): California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut: $190,000 – $240,000 per year; all other U.S. states: $169,000 – $219,000 per year. Base pay is part of total compensation; eligible for equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness, tech, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and dependents). Affirm is remote-first; most roles are remote, with some offices available as needed.
