OverviewThe Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois (LTF) is hiring a Financial Services Director who will support the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The Financial Services Director will work closely with program staff, grants team, leadership, and external partners to ensure that financial practices align with the organization’s mission, values, and donor expectations.LTF is a charitable foundation that provides financial support to not-for-profit legal aid organizations based in Illinois. Legal aid is a vital social service that makes justice accessible for people who cannot afford to hire an attorney.ResponsibilitiesMaintain and reconcile the general ledger, including all journal entries and month-end closingsProcess accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor payments, invoicing, and deposits and reconciliationsReconcile bank and credit card statements monthlyReview cash receipts and disbursements for proper codingTrack restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and donations in accordance with fund accounting principlesReview financial data in accounting softwareMaintain accurate and organized financial records in compliance with internal policies and external regulationsCollaborate with program and development staff to ensure proper allocation of expenses and grant complianceMonitor cash flow and alert leadership to any financial concernsFinancial Reporting and Year-End PreparationPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and board of directors with actionable insightsSupport the preparation of documentation for annual audits and 990 filingsProvide workpapers and documentation for year-end auditParticipate in meetings with auditors and tax preparers as neededCompliance SupportHandle 401k administrationManage and ensure payroll tax filings are completed in coordination with payroll service providerReview preparation of Forms W-2, 1099 and 1096Provide documentation needed for annual Form 990 filingInternal Audit SupportAssist with internal audit processesPeriodically review accounting functionsDraft and review accounting memos to document processesPayroll Tax ComplianceReview and reconcile payroll recordsReview quarterly and annual payroll tax returnsBudgeting AssistanceSupport budgeting processes and provide financial data for planningAssist with annual budget preparation and periodic forecastingQualificationsAssociate’s degree in accounting, or related field, college level coursework requiredAt least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit settingExperience with payroll tax filingsTechnical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in accounting software, QuickBooks experience preferred; expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly with ExcelProblem-Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues effectivelyAttention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasksKnowledge of Accounting Practices: Demonstrated understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund accounting, internal controls, and compliance with financial reporting standards and data security requirementsSalary & BenefitsThe Financial Services Director is a full-time position, with a salary range of $110,000 - $125,000, depending on experience. LTF offers excellent benefits, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO medical insurance; dental, vision, and life-insurance coverage; paid vacation and paid time off. LTF also makes an annual contribution to an employer-sponsored 401K retirement account following an initial 12-month period of employment. An LTF laptop, iPhone with paid cellular and data service will be issued, along with other equipment as necessary.Work LocationThe Lawyers Trust Fund maintains a physical office in downtown Chicago but is operating under a mostly hybrid work system.
