OverviewHighmark Health – Data Protection and Security – Principal Architect role focused on defining, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-wide data security and protection strategies. The incumbent will work with stakeholders to embed sound security practices and controls in strategies, programs, and operations, with emphasis on data access control, preventing data leakage, and responsible data handling. The role includes evaluating technologies and tools to mature data security capabilities and mentoring other information security and data professionals.Essential ResponsibilitiesDevelop systems and component architectures and APIs that meet long-term needs. Articulate and evangelize architectural principles with engineering, architecture, and product teams to ensure secure, sustainable components aligned with the company’s strategy. Analyze and recommend novel technologies and architectural solutions (and business cases) to technology executives to optimize value, risk, spend, and design fluence enterprise solutions architects and engineers to define, develop, maintain, and communicate technology and platform strategy, guidelines, and reusable design patterns to all levels including the Highmark Health executive team.Collaborate with external and internal engineering teams to provide architecture and design mentorship and leadership to ensure successful product delivery and operational excellence in production, including leadership for application development and change management activities.Establish relationships with key architects and executive technology leadership to promote architectural standard methodologies.Collaborate with security, developers, product and program management, and senior executives to drive architecture strategy, reference documents, functional specifications, designs, and libraries.Resolve approaches for new areas by investigating state-of-the-art technologies and leading the development of enterprise solutions that meet current and future business requirements.Present and share the value and vision of proposed architectures and solutions to a wide audience.Promote architecture standard methodologies and mentor technical staff within the Data Product organization.Champion a culture of innovation in an environment requiring scalability, security, and reliability for enterprise cloud and on-premise applications and infrastructure.Other duties as assigned or requested.ExperienceRequired10 years of experience in Information Security.4 years of experience as Information Security Architect with deep understanding of security domains (e.g., zero trust, data protection, identity & access management, threat management).3 years of experience with data management, query processing, distributed processing, high availability, statistical and ML systems, and production operations.Preferred3 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions (evaluation, integration).3 years of experience managing and leading teams.SkillsOutstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills; ability to communicate architectural issues to technical and non-technical audiences at multiple levels.Strong technical acumen across cloud and on-premise technologies, architectures, applications, and APIs.Ability to initiate and guide enterprise technical programs and business cases to successful outcomes at scale.Ability to navigate technical details for enterprise security programs and guide staff through solution development.Sound judgment and ability to analyze cyber risk and provide risk-appropriate advice and decisions.Preferred Skills & ExperienceSignificant knowledge of data architecture concepts, practices, tools, and strategies.AI Security Expertise: serve as the subject matter expert on data security for AI/ML systems, including data privacy, security of AI models against adversarial attacks, bias detection and mitigation, secure data handling, and ethical AI principles.EducationRequiredBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience/education as determined by the company in lieu of a bachelors degree.PreferredMaster’s degree in Computer Science or related field.Licenses or CertificationsRequiredNonePreferredSecurity certifications (TOGAF, CISSP, CISM, etc.).Additional DetailsTravel: 0% - 25%Position Type: Office- or Remote-basedLanguage (Other than English): NonePay Range: Minimum $108,000; Maximum $201,800Notes: Base pay determined by qualifications, experience, internal equity, market, and other factors.
