Overview The City of Laguna Beach is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Technician in the Finance Department. There is currently one vacancy in the area of Accounts Payable. What you'll do We are looking for a detail-oriented, team-oriented Accounting Technician who will assume responsibility for technical accounting activities within the City. This includes performing accounts payable processing, auditing accounts payable transactions for correct accounting and account coding, and monitoring various revenue and expenditure accounts for accuracy and budget compliance. The role also involves preparing journal entries and reconciliations, preparing financial reports, participating in audits, and assisting in the development of accounting procedures. Schedule This position works on-site and has a 9/80 work schedule. The work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on alternating Fridays. City Hall is closed on alternating Fridays. Qualifications Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively perform the duties of the position is acceptable. A typical combination is as follows: Education: Graduation from high school with college-level coursework in basic accounting, bookkeeping, or finance. An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting is highly desirable. Experience: Three years of full-time progressively responsible accounting experience in an accounting environment, preferably in a municipal setting; or two years of full-time experience with the City as an Office Specialist. One year of technical and clerical accounting experience, preferably processing accounts payable transactions in a fast-paced, high-volume organization, is highly desirable. License/Certificate Requirements: A valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required, due to the performance of some field duties. Application Process All interested applicants must submit a completed online city application. Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with a first review on September 24, 2025. Applications will be screened carefully, and selected applicants will be invited to undergo a Structured Panel Interview to evaluate knowledge, skills, and abilities. The appointing hiring authority will review qualifications of eligible applicants before making selections and may require a written exam. The process may be modified based on the City's needs.
