Job Description

Position: Lecturer - Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology, Rausser College of Natural Resources Open date: June 18, 2025. Final date: July 18, 2026. Applications will be reviewed as needed; the pool does not guarantee a position. The Department of Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology (NST) at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses in Nutritional Science and related topics during the academic year and in the summer. NST focuses on the metabolic biology of nutrients and toxicants in relation to human health and disease, with research and curriculum spanning delivery of nutrients to mammalian cells, genetics and diet-related disease, and programs addressing health, safety, and environmental concerns. The department also offers a Master in Nutritional Sciences & Dietetics (NST Dietetic Lecturer) and may recruit for non-dietetic courses (NST Non-Dietetic Lecturer). The number of positions varies by semester depending on department needs. General duties Deliver lectures and hold office hours. Plan and prepare lessons; develop new topics, teaching materials, and online resources. Supervise Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs), if applicable. Mentor students and contribute to departmental and program activities (dietetics teaching). Coordinate lab preparations with Teaching Lab Staff (lab courses). Develop exams and projects and assign grades. Maintain records and monitor student progress; address special student needs. Maintain knowledge of and implement college policies. SpecializationsIf applying for a Dietetic Lecturer position, indicate the “Dietetic Lecturer” specialization. If applying for a Non-Dietetic Lecturer position, indicate the “Non-Dietetic Lecturer” specialization. Department: Labor Contract: Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent international degree) by the time of application. Additional qualifications (required at start)For NST Non-Dietetic lecturers: Ph.D. (or equivalent) or M.D. (or equivalent) by start date. Preferred qualifications For NST Dietetic lecturers: Master’s degree or equivalent in dietetics, nutrition, food service, public health, or related field (at time of application). Five+ years of professional dietetics experience. Registered Dietitians with ability to teach professional courses in the DPD curriculum. Leadership experience and commitment to the dietetics profession. Food Service Management instructors should have ServSafe Manager certification. For NST Non-Dietetic Lecturers: Experience teaching biological lab techniques. Advanced degree in Bioscience.
