OverviewRequisition No: 860911Agency: Department of HealthWorking Title: CHIEF LEGAL COUNSEL - 64007046Pay Plan: SESPosition Number: 64007046Salary: $105,000 - $113,000Posting Closing Date: 09/25/2025Open CompetitiveLocation: Tallahassee, FloridaTotal Compensation Estimator ToolOpen CompetitiveLocation: Tallahassee, FloridaSalary: $105,000 - $113,000ResponsibilitiesServe as the Chief Legal Counsel to the Office of Medical Marijuana Use and act as lead attorney for the Office.Supervise other programmatic attorneys and coordinate Office legal needs with other attorneys and staff to ensure client satisfaction.Provide clear and consistent advice and counsel on general administrative matters, statutory, and regulatory interpretations.Engage in rulemaking, including drafting and promulgating administrative rules pursuant to Chapter 120, Florida Statutes, on complex subject matters.Review and respond to administrative filings including petitions for variance, waiver, and declaratory statements.Review and prepare agency action in disciplinary proceedings against licensees and handle resulting administrative litigation.Provide oversight of and/or representation in the Office’s litigation, including formal and informal administrative hearings, state and federal court actions, and appeals.Provide expert legislative analyses and legal review of all bills impacting the Office; advise on implementing legislation.Provide guidance on public records issues and assist with review as needed.Plan and direct the work of the Office's attorneys, approve leave, document performance deficiencies, recognize milestones and successes, and recommend hiring or disciplinary action.Perform other related duties as required by the Deputy General Counsel or the General Counsel.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesProfessional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative hearings or court proceedings. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software; knowledge of rulemaking authority and process; knowledge of civil and administrative proceedings and procedures; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.QualificationsLaw degree (J.D.) and five years of professional experience in the practice of law.
