Assistant Bakery Manager (Plant) Location: The Baking Institute Bakery Co. Compensation: Up to $25/hour | Eligible for overtime | Benefits + Health Insurance | Employee Discounts About the Role We are seeking a motivated Assistant Bakery Manager to support our Plant Manager in overseeing daily operations of our wholesale bakery. This role is critical to ensuring smooth production, compliance with food safety programs, and coordination across departments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and ready to act as the right hand to the Plant Manager. As a bilingual workplace (English/Spanish), we value team members who can help foster clear communication across departments. Key Responsibilities Production Oversight and Planning - Support the Plant Manager in daily and long-term production planning. - Monitor workflows across cake, pastry, and baking departments to ensure efficiency, quality, and deadlines are met. Sanitation and Food Safety - Serve as the SQF Practitioner/Lead, maintaining and following all SQF food safety and quality programs. - Ensure sanitation procedures are carried out and documented properly at all stages of production. Inventory and Vendor Management - Assist with ingredient and packaging inventory management. - Communicate with vendors regarding deliveries, quality issues, and supply needs. Operational Leadership - Provide general oversight of the plant in the absence of the Plant Manager. - Supervise production staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and standards. - Support training, coaching, and performance monitoring of team members. Compliance and Programs - Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. - Keep accurate records related to food safety, sanitation, and operational metrics. Qualifications Previous experience in food manufacturing, commercial baking, or production management preferred. Knowledge of SQF or other food safety programs strongly desired. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus (we are a bilingual workspace).
