OverviewThe primary responsibilities of a Senior Parcel Project Engineer include the duties of a Parcel Project Engineer and are supplemented with opportunities to improve the team as a whole through mentorship based on the employee’s wealth of experience. The bullet points below separate a Senior Parcel Project Engineer while the remaining bullet points apply to both roles.ResponsibilitiesSPEC/CODE ComplianceDevelops and maintains a working knowledge of customer’s design standards and specifications.Follows Kasa design & sizing procedures as well as NEC (NFPA 70) and UL508A requirements.Reads a Scope of Work for a project and understands what is required. Is willing and able to ask logical questions of the pertinent parties to get clarification when a full understanding isn’t initially had.Plays a mentoring role in refining team member’s knowledge of these SPEC/CODE Compliance items.Applies a critical eye to the developed internal processes and procedures with intent to continuously improve them.Develops an engineering plan, resource requirement and schedule that supports the overall project scope and schedule.May assign or delegate work to project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing. Be responsible for all delegated work and verify quality of all delegated work.Tracks and is able to report out to management personnel on status of all project work flow and who is where on work.Transmits project files (start-up and as-built deliverables and programs, etc) to customers and vendors.Responsible for ensuring the quality of goods and services to both internal and external customers. This includes the accuracy and completeness of drawings, programs, HMI screens, documentation, and bills of materials before distribution to respective customers.Provides technical interface with customer’s project representative(s) and Kasa’s Project Manager.Has ability to manage small jobs independently and commission a system without assistance.Plays a mentoring role in refining team member’s capabilities of these Project Facilitation responsibilities.DESIGNSDevelops and/or oversees the development of project designs and drawings per project scope.Has knowledge on how to design electrical schematics, size power and control circuits, calculate SCCR ratings, perform thermal calculations for control panels, design industrial network configurations, and layout hardware internal and external to controls.Calculates arc-flash using the IEEE methodology for provided electrical equipment, order and install labelling as required.Follows document control procedures for revisions, submittals, and Kasa design process flow.Reviews all engineering and designs for compliance with engineering principals, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related piles material requirements and requisitions electrical components and project materials.Writes operations manuals, user manuals, O&M manuals, etc.Develops checkout and validation forms for Factory Acceptance Tests and on-site commissioning and all required documentation on projects per the Kasa Process Manual.Plays a mentoring role in refining team member’s adoption of Kasa design standards.Applies a critical eye to Kasa design standards with intent to continuously improve them.CONTROLSDevelops and/or oversees the development of PLC, HMI/GDU, and SCADA programs per project scope.Understands ladder logic and structured text PLC programming languages.Configures industrial networks and understands relevant communication protocols such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, Modbus, and ASi.Debugs and tests control systems at the customer's facility (start-up/stand-by).On-site startup and commissioning of systems. May involve 10 to 20 hour shifts per day as required to meet specific start-up schedules.Turns in all required Kasa paperwork each week when in the field or on start-up.Assists with shop control panel Q.C. procedures when needed.Mentors team members and enables the improvement of controls project execution as a team.Other DutiesExemplifies Kasa Values including Customer Empathy, Trust, Teamwork, Sense of Urgency and Problem Solving.Demonstrates Kasa’s Behavioral Norms including Be Present, Speak Your Truth, Attend to Safety & Be Open to plies with all safety policies and plies with all attendance standards and company policies.Other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesAttends all required contractor or customer meetings to represent Kasa and reports out project status, especially any issues or concerns.Serves as a mentor to peers yet is not anticipated to have any direct reports.Directs controls engineers on same project(s).Directs commissioning engineers on same project(s).Ability to be the field supervisor on jobsite as assigned. Lead a start-up team and attend all meetings and report out to project manager and team. Make sure team turns in all required paperwork and documentation.Possessing the soft skills required to connect with other team members and provide well-received mentorship.Training RequiredPCM Training recommended.KCU training requirements TBDEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; or seven years of applicable experience.Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Experience with PLC and HMI hardware and software.Ten years of applicable experience.Preferred experience includes:PLC hardware and programming on Allen-Bradley or Siemens platforms.Experience with one or more of PanelView, Proface, Wonderware, Indusoft, or Ignition.Working proficiency with AutoCAD.The ability to juggle multiple tasks and changing priorities.Prior experience in the conveyor, material handling or related industries.Additional QualificationsAbility to interpret a variety of instruction, either written or verbal, diagram or schedule.Maintains an acceptable driving record.Ability to read, write and speak English.Ability to communicate effectively with peers and subordinates in a one-on-one and/or group setting.Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and dimensions.Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages.Ability to work with fractions and decimals, converting them back and forth.Ability to work independently as well as within a team.Ability to multi-task in a high pace anizational skills and attention to detail a must.Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize time and various projects.Ability to work with confidential data.Skills in organization, prioritization and time management.Work under stress to meet project deadlines and minute attention to detail.This position operates in an office and job site setting. It routinely requires using standard office equipment, such as computer, phones, copiers, fax machines etc. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm, but are project work dependent. Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel is required. Start-ups or job site setting hours will vary based on project and location. Field hours can vary from 10 to 20 hours per day in addition for the need to work weekends and 7 or more days in a row depending on specific start-up schedules on projects and customer demands, which can vary. Customer interaction is required. Frequently, startup situations become very stressful under deadlines to meet a customer’s schedule or to overcome a situation where our customer may not be satisfied with progress or performance that is out of our control. Engineers are expected to handle these situations in a calm and helpful manner.Physical DemandsPerformance of the required duties will require physical ability to occasionally climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally requires use of construction personnel hoists. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects in pocket, tools, or controls, sit, talk, hear, stand. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weight. Employee must be capable of using tools, and able to help install equipment and make adjustments/modifications to that equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works on-site at the construction worksite where the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
