OverviewInvestment Officer - Sustainable Finance Expert position with IFC, part of the World Bank Group (WBG). Location: Washington, DC, United States. Term: 3 years. Language: English required; Spanish preferred. Closing date: 10/5/2025 at 11:59pm UTC.ResponsibilitiesContribute to structuring of innovative sustainable finance products, including developing sustainable finance frameworks, engaging with Second Party Opinion providers, and incorporating relevant provisions into legal documentation.Engage with market participants (commercial banks, other DFIs, Second Party Opinion providers, sustainability experts) to stay abreast of market opportunities.Support Relationship Managers and Investment Officers in establishing strategic dialogue with clients and investors on beyond-compliance sustainability topics, delivering tailored presentations that illustrate IFC value and promoting resilient and sustainable infrastructure (e.g., Renewable Energy, E-mobility, Water Treatment and Efficiency, Energy Efficiency/Green Buildings) and related social priorities and financing innovations.Contribute to sustainable finance, climate, nature, and impact finance knowledge; stay current on trends across infrastructure sub-sectors and regions; participate in knowledge sessions and business development activities.Support blended finance structuring and fundraising efforts, including pipeline coordination and donor engagement for climate and sustainability themes within IFC’s Infrastructure sectors.Assist in administering and managing the unit’s sustainable finance platform funded by donor trust funds.Produce monthly pipeline updates and reports, along with other deliverables such as presentations and briefings, in coordination with IFC colleagues and related teams (Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory, IFC Climate Business Department, etc.).Contribute to intranet pages, newsletters, market trend reports, and generic pitch materials for the Global Infrastructure department’s Innovation and Strategic Initiatives team.Support or lead knowledge management and training events on sustainable finance and resilience, in coordination with Infrastructure’s Knowledge Management team and sector experts.Assist the team, investment teams, and client Relationship Managers in organizing external sustainability-related events; collaborate with Communications to disseminate knowledge pieces to clients and the public.LocationThe selected candidate is expected to be located in Washington, DC, and work with IFC teams in Washington, DC, Paris, France, and globally. Some travel may be required.Selection CriteriaMaster’s degree in finance, business, economics, environmental sciences, international development, engineering, or a related field.5–6 years of experience in an investment bank, consulting firm, or international financial institution with tasks related to sustainable finance, infrastructure financing, resilient infrastructure, climate and nature finance, and sustainability.Strong knowledge of sustainable finance products, market participants, and broader sustainability, resilience, energy transition, climate, and biodiversity issues.Hands-on experience in infrastructure financing transactions (including capital markets) is a plus.Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to engage with clients and stakeholders.Ability to work effectively in a team and manage multiple client projects.Proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.Strong interpersonal and client management skills; ability to build relationships and influence decisions; adapt approach to seniority of contacts.High energy, initiative, autonomy, and flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.Business fluency in English required; business fluency in Spanish a plus.Additional NotesAs a representative of the World Bank Group, all professional activities should align with our core values: integrity, teamwork, respect for differences, responsibility, and a commitment to impact.
