Senior Software Safety ArchitectHybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Mountain View (CA), Austin (TX), or Warren (MI) three times per week, at minimum.The RoleAs a member of the Infotainment and Connectivity Software Safety team, the Sr. Software Safety Architect supports safety initiatives in all phases of system development (concept, requirements, design, implementation, verification and validation) for software that is core to our Infotainment and Connectivity systems. You will work with the software development teams to ensure safety requirements are implemented properly and verify that platform software solution meets standards.What You’ll DoConduct software safety analyses and ensure implementation of safety requirements for Linux-based infrastructure/platform software (e.g., middleware, platform health diagnostics, Linux OS), by collaborating with cross functional teams including GM systems, system safety, and software engineers as well as hardware and software suppliersVerify that software safety requirements are complete, consistent, and aligned/traceable to system-level safety requirementsMaintain documentation of requirements adherence for each software cadenceEnsure adherence to GM’s safety standards and software development processesCollaborate with GM system safety to align safety strategiesEscalate any unresolved safety-related issues and confirm that the resolution process has been followedContribute to initiatives towards the continuous improvement of the safety and software development processesInterface with corporate and industry experts to stay current in safety processes, methods, and toolsParticipate in safety assessments, audits, and reviewsYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Software, Computer, Control, Mechatronics), Computer Science or related field.A minimum of 5 years embedded systems development experience in safety-critical domains (automotive, aerospace, medical, nuclear)Demonstrated performance in a position requiring excellent understanding of embedded software implementation details as well as the larger systems pictureFamiliarity with ISO 26262 and other functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178CEmbedded Linux development experienceFull software development lifecycle experience (software requirements, design, coding, verification)Proficiency in C/C++ embedded programming.Excellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and in a team environment, interfacing with GM engineers and suppliers globallyStrong organizational skills with attention to detailWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Experience performing or evaluating safety analysis methods such as HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, and STPAKnowledge of software architecture and design patternsExperience reviewing and/or developing software requirements from system-level requirementsMulti-core programming and real-time operating system experience.Familiarity with automotive systems and with active safety and automated driving systems in particularKnowledge of in-vehicle communication networks (CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet)CompensationThe compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.The salary range for this role is $158,000 to $241,900.
