Growing together.The Associate General Counsel provides legal advice and services on issues concerning the rights, obligations, risks and privileges of the organization. This role will require deep knowledge of the industry and the specific business practices of the Clinical Services Organization within UnitedHealth Group so as to best advise senior business leaders. The Associate General Counsel provides a full range of legal advice and services related to health benefits law, insurance law, commercial law, contracts law and regulatory and compliance issues.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Support Utilization Management function and related initiatives across all lines of businessSupport Enterprise Clinical Services and Clinical Appeals, including review of operational policies and procedures, clinical coverage review and escalated clinical issuesCounsel senior management on strategic business initiativesProactively identify and resolve legal mattersDevelop best practices for addressing emerging legal and business risksSupport the development of new clinical programsCollaborate with colleagues across the UnitedHealth Group's legal and compliance departmentsHelp foster key regulatory relationshipsAssist in the review, preparation and negotiation of various products, documents and contractsSkills:Ability to work effectively in an ambiguous environmentAbility to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented workplaceAbility to prioritize and work effectively under time constraintsComfortable taking ownership and accountability for projectsAbility to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contactsExcellent written and verbal communications skillsWell-developed presentation skillsAbility to drive resultsSolid work ethicYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Juris Doctorate degree5+ years of legal experienceExperience with regulatory agencies, providers, and/or clinical deliveryAbility to provide timely and responsive legal support for business partners located in the Central and Eastern Time ZonesSolid understanding of health insurance and/or the managed care industryProven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environmentDemonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projects and ability to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needsAdvanced negotiation skillsPreferred Qualifications:Relevant legal experience in health law, commercial healthcare insurance, Medicaid managed care, Medicare Advantage, litigation, contracting and/or healthcare provider legal supportLive within the vicinity of Minnetonka, MN or hybrid/remote*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment.
