Our goal is for every full-time staff member to feel supported and equipped to realize their full potential, including at least 80 hours (10 days) of paid time per year for professional development.Position SummaryThis position is part of the Facilities Services IT (FS IT) team that provides multiple critical campus-wide services, including:Supporting and administering the CCURE system infrastructure that controls the campus door access panels.Supporting and administering the campus alarm system infrastructure, which includes intrusion, fire, and environmental alarms.Supporting and administering building control system infrastructure.Supporting and administering the FS IT server infrastructure.This role is mission-critical as many of these systems support campus security and are needed by the campus on a 24x7 basis.ResponsibilitiesMaintains complex server-based solutions.Determines and implements appropriate patching schedules.Determines required upgrade timeline(s).Monitors systems performance and makes adjustments as municates system maintenance efforts with appropriate staff.Implements complex server-based solutions.Works with cloud, network, and system engineers to deploy server-based solutions.Ensures systems are tuned for optimum performance.Designs complex server-based solutions.Works with broad teams (functional and technical) to determine project goals.Engages vendors to determine product functionality and requirements related to project goals.Manages firewall access needs to systems.Works with the Information Security Office to ensure adherence with campus security policies.Professional development and training.Automates Common Tasks In Support Of The Server-based SolutionUsing PowerShell to author scripts to maintain server solutions.Determine appropriate scheduling tools and times to execute scripts.Required QualificationsAbility to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information clearly.Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.Demonstrates problem-solving skills.Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.Basic knowledge of applying technologies and systems to meet business needs.Ability to write technical documentation clearly.Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions to improve performance.Knowledge of design, development and management of technology and systems to meet business needs.General knowledge of other IT areas.Thorough understanding of and experience with system-related issues and actions to improve performance.Demonstrated skills adapting equipment and technology to user needs.Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect other systems and users.Experience writing and editing complex scripts for system maintenance and administration.Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies, including securing server-based hardware and software.Receives and respects diverse skills and perspectives to achieve shared goals.Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Salary & BenefitsFor information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by UC Berkeley, please visit the University’s Compensation & Benefits site.
