HB Staffing is seeking a Traffic Engineer to join a growing and dynamic team. Perform professional engineering and project management work for transportation programs, operations, and facilities. Manages the City’s traffic control system, including signals, signing, striping, and residential traffic programs. Works under the Principal Traffic Engineer and may supervise staff, contractors, and consultants. Overview Position: Traffic Engineer Location: Santa Monica, CA Type: Full-time; Contract Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7:30am to 5:30pm, and Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Pay: $61.38/hour Responsibilities Preparing, reviewing, and approving designs, specifications, estimates, and calculations for traffic engineering projects (signals, signing/striping, traffic control, event management). Analyzing traffic circulation, safety, and developer mitigation strategies; conducting studies; preparing reports; and presenting findings to City Council, Planning Commission, and community groups. Supporting grant applications with technical reviews, cost estimates, and coordination. Providing technical guidance on traffic safety and signal priority systems to City departments. Directing design, implementation, and monitoring of traffic signal systems; troubleshooting and programming operations. Collecting and analyzing traffic data (volume, speed, accidents, pedestrian/bicycle counts) to develop reports and safety recommendations. Issuing work orders, coordinating with crews, and ensuring compliance with standards. Leading and coordinating projects to meet schedule, budget, and contract requirements. Preparing project scopes, cost estimates, feasibility assessments, and contractor inspections. Ensuring compliance with ordinances, regulations, and standards. Performing related duties as assigned. Position Requirements Transportation engineering principles, project management, design, construction techniques, and traffic operations. Knowledge of signal system technologies, highway capacity theory, and multimodal standards. Understanding of state and federal road design standards (e.g., CA MUTCD). Understanding of government processes, regulations, and effective customer service practices. Prepare clear reports and communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Direct installation of traffic control devices and managing multiple deadlines. Ability to interpret policies, codes, and regulations while exercising sound judgment. Build effective working relationships with staff, contractors, officials, and the public. Provide responsive customer service and work effectively with diverse groups. Education and Experience 4 years of paid work experience in transportation engineering, transportation management, civil engineering, or a closely related field. 2 years of the required experience must include project management and municipal engineering experience. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. Possession of a valid Class C driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California. Registration as a Traffic Engineer (TE) in the State of California is desirable.
