OverviewStaff Data Engineer and Scientist role within the Customer Analytics team at Palo Alto Networks. Hybrid data engineering and applied AI/ML role focused on building robust data infrastructure, advanced analytics, and end-to-end ML/AI model deployment for key customer success initiatives. In-office role 3 days/week at HQ, Santa Clara, CA.ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable data architectures and datasets to support analytics needs.Implement large datasets in batch and real-time analytics solutions.Ensure data security and build scalable solutions for dynamic cloud environments, including financial considerations.Perform code reviews and contribute to improving end-to-end development processes.Own the end-to-end lifecycle of ML projects: problem framing, feature engineering, model selection, training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring with the data platform team.Develop and deploy classical ML models for business areas such as marketing attribution, customer churn, case escalation, and other use cases.Contribute to generative AI initiatives by evaluating and fine-tuning AI agents and conversational systems that query large datasets via natural language.Partner with Go-to-Market, Global Customer Services, Product, and Finance teams to translate business challenges into data science use-cases and present findings clearly.Collaborate with stakeholders to understand problems and drive data-driven solutions from concept to completion.Qualifications7+ years of experience building and maintaining data pipelines for reporting, analysis, and feature engineering.Experience creating clean, well-structured analytical datasets for business and data science use cases; familiarity with batch and real-time analytics in big data environments.Experience with Google Cloud Services (BigQuery, Vertex AI) and dynamic cloud environments.Experience developing dashboards in Tableau/Looker or similar tools.Strong Python skills and familiarity with data science/machine learning libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Pandas, PyTorch/TensorFlow, XGBoost).Proficiency in SQL for complex querying and data manipulation.Ability to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects from concept to completion.Preferred: experience in Customer Analytics, including escalation, risk predictors, renewals, and delivery efficiency in Professional Services.Preferred: direct experience with generative AI, LLMs, and frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face.Preferred: experience evaluating and optimizing AI system performance; expertise in causal inference and time-series analysis.MS or PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent practical/military pensation & BenefitsThe base salary range is $143,000 to $231,000 per year. Compensation may include restricted stock units and a bonus.
