The Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) is responsible for the management of 23 prison facilities and the division of Adult Parole with oversight of 21,000 offenders housed in state and private facilities or on parole. As a large state agency, with an annual budget of over $900 million, success is achieved through mission focused collaboration. The Colorado State Board of Parole is an integral part of the Criminal Justice System and the CDOC. The Parole Board conducts approximately 27,000 statewide and interstate parole hearings each year in order to make decisions regarding application, revocation, and rescission hearings of eligible offenders. The mission of the Parole Board is to increase public safety by evaluating an individual’s potential for successful reintegration to the community through the use of innovative evidence-informed practices and to fulfill the requirements of Colorado Revised Statute 17-2-201 (State Board of Parole). The Director of the Parole Board is responsible for administrative oversight of operational aspects of the unit, while reporting to the Parole Board Chair and serving as a liaison between board members and unit staff. Major responsibilities Promote and lead the administrative functions of the CDOC's Office of the Parole Board to include contracting, fiscal oversight, performance management, personnel matters, policy implementation and process improvement. Assist the Chair in planning, directing and the operations of the Colorado Parole Board. Prepare briefings and advise the Chair and the board on policy issues and new or updated legislation. Prepare operational plans and manage communications. Provide leadership and direction to administrative staff. This position provides oversight and supervision of the work performed by assigned staff to include: Performance Management Program (PMP), corrective or disciplinary actions, resolves minor disputes and grievances, develops or modifies staffing patterns, and approves leave. Position ensures that the work of this unit is completed in a timely and accurate manner, provides coaching and mentoring to staff, and empowering a workforce that embodies honesty, integrity, ethical behaviors and cohesiveness. Implement uniform case filing and processing systems. Draft, implement and evaluate board policies, goals and objectives. Update and enhance the Board's website. Represents the department in a positive and informative manner and is responsible for the oversight of the public's perception of the CDOC. Ensure responsive, efficient, and effective customer service is provided to the stakeholders of Colorado in order to provide public safety and reduce recidivism. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Management, Business, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or closely related field. Experience: Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional executive leadership or high level administrative management work experience in a large, multi-level corrections, criminal justice or law enforcement organization. Substitution for Education: Experience may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications Parole Board management experience; Experience directing an organization with inter-agency relationships at state, federal, and local levels; Experience organizing pardons and release from supervision.
